This fully embedded sport psychologist position located within Athletics will perform team and individual sports performance consultation as well as integrated psychological services to student athletes including counseling, diagnostic assessment, crisis intervention and therapeutic treatment for Vanderbilt University’s diverse student athlete population. This position functions as an integral part of our highly collaborative and growing sport psychology team emanating out of a vibrant partnership between the University Counseling Center, Athletics, and the broader Student Care Network.

The sport psychologist is a valued member of our multidisciplinary collaborative healthcare team, upholding and embracing our mission of providing an excellent student-athlete experience and fostering a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness throughout the program. The role will also involve community outreach, consultation and liaison activities aimed at increasing access to services for student athletes by promoting awareness and reducing stigma around seeking assistance. Multicultural awareness and responsiveness are important components of all clinical and community outreach-oriented work, and specific knowledge, experience, and skills working with AAPI/APIDA, International, African American, Latinx, and/or LGBTQI students is preferred. Flexible hours including some evening and weekend hours and activities are an essential component of this role.

Qualifications: 

• A Doctoral degree from an accredited institution of higher education in psychology, counseling, or other closely related mental health-related field is necessary.
• Current or anticipated certification as a Sport Psychologist and/or specialized training in sports psychology and/or AASP certification is preferred.
• Completion of an APA accredited internship is preferred.
• Licensure as a psychologist with the ability to obtain licensure in Tennessee within 1 year of start date is preferred. Will also consider master's level practitioners who are currently licensed in TN and/or another state with eligibility for TN licensure within one year.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with patients/clients from diverse backgrounds, with specific experience, knowledge, and skills working with AAPI/APIDA, international, African- American, Latinx, Disabled and/or LGBTQI students is preferred.
• Effective interpersonal skills to form and maintain meaningful relationships with students, colleagues, and all stakeholders preferred.
• Experience working in a higher education setting with student athletes is preferred.
• Demonstrated skill in written and oral communication, including public speaking and group meeting facilitation is preferred.
