Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Physical Education, Head Coach Strength and Conditioning, the Strength and Conditioning Graduate Assistant is responsible for assisting the Head Strength and Conditioning coach in running the strength and conditioning programs for all 23 varsity sports and 1 club sport. This position is responsible for the development and administration of the strength and conditioning program for assigned teams. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Strength and Conditioning (65%)

• Assist in the administration of assessments, testing and the strength and conditioning programs for 24 sports.
• Develop and administer the strength and conditioning programs for sports assigned to them by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
• Apply, demonstrate, and instruct weight training knowledge to Division III varsity athletes.
• Manage lifting times and schedules for assigned teams.
• Execute year-round comprehensive lifting programs.
• Assist with the creation and direction of sport specific speed, quickness, agility and conditioning workouts.
• Set up and breakdown of training sessions.
• Participate in continuing education events.
• Knowledge of NCAA rules.

 Fitness Center (25%)

• Check-in students and staff.
• Clean and maintain fitness center.

Game Management (10%)

•  Field prep for indoor or outdoor competitions.
• Assist officials to locker rooms and have them sign their compensation agreement.
• Assist teams to locker rooms before, during and after game.
• Ensure fans are maintaining our game day expectations while in the stands.

• Previous coaching experience and proficiency in teaching basic weight room exercises preferred.
• Desire to continue in the field of strength and conditioning for enhanced sport performance preferred.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree required in related field.  Accepted into a Master’s Degree program at Hood College required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must meet the following criteria 1) CSCS by the NSCA, SCCC by the CSCCa, and/or USAW 2) AED/CPR/First Aid certification required.

Language Skills

Proficient in the communication of key concepts for the specific discipline in the English language and ability to assist students with English as a secondary language. Strong oral and written communication skills.  Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, faculty, staff, and other constituencies. 

Technology Skills

Strong computer proficiency in internet applications, Google System and Office Suite Productivity products (such as Microsoft Word, Excel & Powerpoint); and ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications.

Reasoning Ability                                                 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Ability to hypothesize, draw conclusions, and support conclusions. Ability to work in theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.
