Job Summary: As Assistant Volleyball Coach, this position will collaborate with the head volleyball coach to coordinate all aspects of the program, including coaching players, recruiting student athletes, and program administration.
As Dieseth Hall Manager, this position is responsible for creating and maintaining a comprehensive community and student development program in the residence hall. This includes providing leadership and on-going training for the Resident Assistants, mediating roommate conflicts, managing housing operations, and collaborating with the Area Coordinator in Towers as well as the student staff members.
This is a .83 FTE (full time August-May, off June-July) shared position that will be 50% assistant volleyball coach and 50% live-in hall manager.
Full Description:
Assistant Volleyball Coach duties and responsibilities Attend practices, competitions, meeting, planning sessions, and other essential volleyball-related activities. Assist the head coach in administration and management of the volleyball program as assigned. Actively participate in the recruitment of student-athletes. Adhere to the rules, policies, and regulations established by Luther College, the American Rivers Conference (ARC), and the NCAA. Demonstrate a willingness to support the mission, philosophy, and goals of Luther College, NCAA Division III, and ARC. Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach
Dieseth Hall Manager duties and responsibilities The Dieseth Hall Manager is responsible for the daily housing operations for Dieseth Hall during the academic year. Supervise resident assistants. Direct supervision of seven resident assistants and one assistant hall director. Hold RAs accountable for filling out information reports, complete programming requirements, and fulfill the terms of their contracts. Meet regularly with each Dieseth RA, providing consistent, effective supervision. Ensure that the RAs complete their programming requirements. Serve as a role model to RAs and residents including adhering to expectations and Luther policies. Assist in running weekly hall meetings. Attend and assist with staff development sessions. Work with Residence Life Staff members with regard to staff development sessions, orientation, training, and other special projects. Assist with staff selection. Work with residents to help provide a climate in the residence hall that is conducive to academic achievement. Assist with meeting with students that are involved in the conduct process or Care reports when assigned. Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, administrators and other staff members. Serve as a resource person referring students to the appropriate persons or offices for their academic, personal, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Be concerned about the physical environment in which the students reside. Be proactive in addressing potential problems and current problems including responding to maintenance concerns, helping the custodians, and working to hinder vandalism. Promptly and efficiently respond to residents' needs, concerns or problems. Handle residents' crises until such time as the designated personnel arrive on the scene. Keep students informed through effective and timely posting of information in designated areas. Help students change rooms and complete the appropriate paperwork.
Communication Report any problems you become aware of to the Area Coordinator and the appropriate persons or office. Be proactive developing communications with others, a large part of this position involves serving as an information conduit, mentor, and supervisor. Maintain confidentiality within appropriate boundaries.
Administrative tasks Collect RA Community Development Logs, address any problems/questions, and complete reports. Organize and oversee hall opening and closing, ensuring that resident needs are attended to, the necessary paperwork is completed including signing of contracts, room condition reports and key signature cards, and the building is adequately prepared for the arrival of students and is in satisfactory condition when the students leave. Read duty log and address or communicate about issues as they arise. Attend to maintenance requests in a timely fashion
Other responsibilities Meet regularly with the Towers Area Coordinator. Attend residence life and student engagement professional staff meetings. Collaborate with other members of the student life staff, and/or other staff and faculty on areas of interest. Other duties as assigned
Experience
- Collegiate athletic participation required and successful college or high school coaching experience preferred
- Previous residence life experience strongly preferred

- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college
- Willingness to recruit student-athletes and perform administrative duties
- Flexibility to take on duties as assigned Responsibilities require travel and a willingness to work weekends and non-traditional hours
