Assistant Director of Athletics for Business OperationsAthleticsJOB SUMMARY:Plan, develop, and implement, the operating budget and equipment purchase process for the department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Oversee the athletics equipment room operations and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
REPORTS TO: Director of Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: - Liaison for the Athletic Department with the University Finance Office (including Purchasing and Budget).
- In coordination with the Director of Athletics, the Business Manager, will propose, plan and recommend the annual operating budget for the Department of Athletics and Recreation.
- Maintain relationships with University Finance Office, Athletics coaches and athletic department administrators, potential vendors, and organizations. Monitor all profit centers and development efforts as well as rentals as they pertain to depositing income and paying expenses.
- Work with University Finance Office through the approval process for new vendors for athletic equipment, uniforms, facility suppliers, etc. when necessary.
- Prepare all purchase requisitions and approve travel reimbursements and check requisitions.
- Utilize University-specific software systems as it relates to Finance Office and Athletics.
- Maintain all budgets on a daily basis detailing the budget, purchases and encumbrances, and balance on all accounts.
- Organize and secure all team travel (bus/hotel/meal money).
- Meet with the Director of Athletics on a regular basis regarding the budget status to ensure a balanced budget.
- Supervise the equipment room operations and staff.
- Responsible for the organization and execution of all ticket operations efforts for the men's and women's basketball programs.
- Serve as staff supervisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Organize and meet with the SAAC Executive Board planning all community service and career service activities. Organize all SAAC sub-committees as well.
- Serve as program administrator for various sports programs. Work with coaches to develop programs, mentor coaches and talk through program issues (scheduling, travel, recruiting, etc). Serve as a sounding board and mentor for student-athletes. Mediate student-athlete/coach issues.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) - Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Fluent with a variety of computer programs is required, including Adelphi University, systems (student and business).
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong business management skills and accounting proficiency.
- Ability to organize and pay attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
- Ability to supervise employees.
- Ability to work weekends and nights (when necessary).
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree in Business related area required.
- Master's degree in Business related area preferred.
- Two to three years of experience in a business related position required.
