The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C), with offices in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is accepting applications for the position of Deputy Commissioner. The responsibilities of the A-R-C Deputy Commissioner include but are not limited to:
INTERNAL OPERATIONS
- Championships/Awards (20%)
- Provides support to host institutions in the planning of league tournaments, championships, and special events
- Attends conference championships and, where appropriate, serves as conference representative on Games Committees
- Assists with the bid process for hosting NCAA Championships
- Manages conference awards program, which includes administration of the selection process, design, order, and distribution
- Rules and Compliance (5%)
- Serves as primary contact for NCAA rules compliance
- Provides research and counsel to the Commissioner in “Enforcement of Rules” cases
- Conference Administration (20%)
- Attends all regular meetings of the Presidents, Faculty Athletic Representatives, Directors of Athletics, Head Coaches, and Special Committees
- Assist the Commissioner in preparing meeting materials and recording minutes
- Oversees the creation and distribution of A-R-C master calendar
- Oversees the biannual A-R-C SID meeting
- Serves as A-R-C SAAC Administrator
- Assist the SSAC Chair/Vice-Chair in the planning and facilitation of meetings
- Coordinate, in collaboration with SAAC Chair/Vice-Chair SAAC Projects
- Facilitate the selection process for the A-R-C SAAC representatives to the NCAA DIII SAAC
- Assists Commissioner in programming diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, in conjunction with the A-R-C Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee Committee
- Assists Commissioner in development of athletics schedules
- Assists Commissioner in working with Officiating Coordinators in nine sports
- Serves as conference liaison for assigned sports
- Assists the Commissioner with the NCAA Strategic Initiatives Grant Program
- Oversees grant applications for supplemental NCAA funding for diversity initiatives
EXTERNAL OPERATIONS (5%)
- Oversees sports information and sport-specific vendor agreements and relations
- Serves as primary contact for third-party sports information agreements (website, webcasting, awards, etc.)
- Serves as primary contact for third-party sports specific agreements (facility rental, ball contracts, video exchange platforms, timing company bids, etc.)
- Attend professional events as representative of the American Rivers Conference Office
- Represent the A-R-C at regional and national meetings (NCAA Convention, Division III Assistant Commissioner annual meeting, DIIISIDA, regional assistant commissioner meetings, etc.)
INFORMATION AND PUBLICITY (35%)
- Oversees the conference’s information and publicity functions
- Manages the conference’s website and social media accounts
- Serves as liaison to NCAA and other national outlets in accordance with their deadlines
- Maintains conference records and statistics
- Supervise sports information intern (when applicable)
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED (10%)
- Perform related duties to meet the needs of the conference as assigned by the Commissioner
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree
- Prior event management experience
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with many constituents, often in high-pressure situations
- Creative in providing solutions to complex and sensitive issues
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
- Familiarity with website maintenance
- Highly Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop
- Ability to work nights and weekends which may include overnight travel (40-50%)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate degree
- Experience in a conference-office setting, including championships administration
- Experience with marketing, promotions or community relations
- Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules
- Familiarity with NCAA’s Requests / Self-Reports Online (RSRO) system
- Familiarity with management of video-exchange systems
- Experience with or interest in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives
SALARY AND COMPENSATION
- Salary commensurate with experience; 12-month contract with comprehensive benefits package
