Summary:
Under the direction of the Dean of Instructional Services and Director of Athletic Operations, provide instruction in area qualified; plan, organize direct, and monitor all activities of the intercollegiate Women’s Softball program including developing a full schedule for both non-traditional and traditional seasons, recruitment, conditioning and training of the student athletes; and is responsible for student athlete behavior/conduct and academic eligibility. This position may also include a combination of day, evening, online and/or hybrid teaching assignments. This position may include face-to-face instruction in a prison environment.
Education and Experience:

Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, directly related to the faculty member's assignment or any associate degree and six years of professional experience, directly related to the faculty member's assignment and appropriate license or certification to practice in California.
For the discipline of coaching the ideal experience is paid full-time intercollegiate coaching experience. However, consideration will be given to a combination of other coaching/playing experiences including: A minimum of 50% coaching adult athletes in intercollegiate, club, semi-pro or professional competition
Remaining experience may include a combination of:
- playing experience at the college level
- coaching at the HS/Club level

Administration of Justice
Any bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience. As used here, “professional experience” includes teaching experience. “Teaching experience” is defined as serving in the capacity of an instructor responsible for development and delivery of formalized educational content designed to meet established standards in an academic or industry setting. Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master’s degree. The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment.
Anthropology
Master's in anthropology or archaeology OR Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in sociology, biological sciences, forensic sciences, genetics or paleontology OR the equivalent Master’s degree.

Desirable Qualifications:
CPR and First Aid certification (if not held, to be obtained within three months of hire)
Experience in coaching college level softball
Experience with California community colleges (California Education Code and Title 5 Regulations)
Experience with participatory governance structures
Experience with accreditation expectations (ACCJC Eligibility Requirements and Standards)
Ability to:

Duties:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Instruct assigned classes in accordance with the course outline of record
Act as head coach for the women’s Softball team
Recruit 18 student athletes annually. Retain 16 students per year
Adhere to all regulations, rules, procedures, and policies for athletic programs as established by the NCAA, the CCCAA, and the Golden Valley Conference
Organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate the intercollegiate softball program
Determine student eligibility for athletic program
Determine program goals, objectives and related activities
Oversee the strength and conditioning program for the sport both in-season and out-of-season
Coordinate the identification and recruitment of eligible individuals by recruiting actively in high schools in the area and contiguous districts. This recruitment process includes: high school visitations, individual contacts with the athlete and parents, and home visits; preparing follow-up correspondence and telephone contact; facilitate District visitation by prospective athletes; and assisting student-athletes by referring them to student employment, financial aid, orientation, counseling, assessment and registration
Stay abreast of current trends and information in the field
Attend coaching clinics, seminars, trainings, and conferences
Maintain membership in and participate in meetings of local, state, and national coaches’ associations
Supply informational assistance in the preparation of media guides, is available to media for interviews, and is responsible for providing timely game results to local media
Attend community events and speaks on behalf of the District as part of fundraising and outreach efforts
Maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the position
Assist student-athletes in preparation for transfer to four-year colleges by: assisting student-athletes with correspondence to four-year colleges, preparing follow-up correspondence and telephone contact with four-year college coaches, initiating contact with four-year college coaches on behalf of their student-athletes, assisting student-athletes in producing game tapes for four-year colleges, assisting student-athletes with their four-year college visitations, and scheduling four-year college coaches to visit the District to recruit student-athletes
Monitor student-athlete scholastic progress in coordination with the Counseling and athletic eligibility staff
Teach student-athletes the practical and theoretical strategies and concepts of their respective sport
Encourage student-athletes to play as a team with enthusiasm, discipline, ethical behavior, and sportsmanship
Provide a safe environment with special respect to the sport and sports injuries
Recommend equipment purchase and care
Assist the Director of Athletic Operations and the Division Dean in the preparation of reports, budgets, and audit information, and other required data
Provide dynamic instruction with the ability to engage student interest by using current and effective andragogy
Meet faculty responsibilities as outlined in the faculty contract
Meeting with classes as scheduled by the appropriate Educational Administrator
Writing and updating course outlines of record. This should be done in cooperation with other unit members who teach in the same subject area
Teaching classes in accordance with the intent of the college catalog and with the objectives and content of the course outline of record
Providing a current syllabus which is consistent with the course outline of record to all students for each class. A course syllabus for each course taught shall be filed by the unit member with the appropriate Educational Administrator within one week of the first meeting of the class
Reviewing, in cooperation with other faculty in the same subject area, textbooks, required reading, workbooks, and other materials
Maintaining accurate and current records of student attendance and student achievement in accordance with District procedures
Demonstrating continuing education toward maintaining currency with developments and changes in subject-matter field through coursework, conferences, workshops, seminars, professional training, and professional reading; or informal learning experiences as they pertain to the unit member’s subject area
Serving on standing and ad hoc committees, as assigned by the Academic Senate
Supervising the purchase, care and maintenance of equipment provided for student use in classes
Attending graduation ceremonies
Fulfilling flex obligation
Participating in and completing Instructional Program Review
Reporting absences to the appropriate Educational Administrator
Directing the work of classified staff as appropriate to the assignment
Directing the work of Student workers as appropriate to the assignment and as agreed to in the request made by the faculty member for a student worker and subsequent approval of that request
Submitting grade rosters to the Registrar’s office within five (5) District business days after the last day of finals and completing all attendance rosters and other administrative forms as scheduled
Participating in Student Learning Outcome (SLO) Assessment
Participating in the use of the Electronic Early Alert System as appropriate
Performs other related duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
