The University of Minnesota Morris, Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, is seeking an Assistant Volleyball Coach. This 10-month assistant coaching appointment is responsible for supporting all aspects of building a competitive NCAA Division III volleyball program that advances the mission of intercollegiate athletics and the University. The assistant coach assists the head coach in student recruitment and retention; coaches student athletes and fosters their skill development; assists in coaching plans and implementation at practices and competitions; provides for students’ safety, health and wellbeing; complies with NCAA, UMAC and university policies; provides sound fiscal management; assists in equipment oversight, scheduling, travel planning, and summer camps; assists in off-season programs and athlete development; and assists in program communication and fundraising efforts with the Head Coach. The assistant coach will work with the head volleyball coach to build a shared vision, work collaboratively with the Office of Admissions, build and retain a diverse and talented team, foster good sportsmanship and a climate of respect, and provide an environment that supports students in achieving their athletic, academic and life goals. Assistant coaching positions carry an additional appointment within Cougar Athletics in a second sport or other opportunity depending upon qualifications.

This position is funded in part by a NCAA Division III Coaching Enhancement Grant supporting ethnic minority and gender representation in newly created assistant coaching positions. This position is entering into an existing 2 year grant partially funded through the NCAA, ending in May 2023. Upon completion of the grant, the position will be re-evaluated for continuation

A Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated effectiveness playing and/or coaching volleyball is required.  The position requires strong organization, oral and written communication skills, and the demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds. The preferred candidate will demonstrate an appreciation for NCAA DIII, be self-directed and motivated, work with integrity, and bring skills and abilities to help advance the program.
