The Sports Performance Graduate Assistant is responsible for assisting the Sports Performance Coordinator in running the strength training, speed, agility, change of direction, conditioning, mobility and recovery programs for all 13 sports. The individual will learn about a realistic strength and conditioning work environment, consistently learning/improving, and being the head of other responsibilities along with the development and administration of the strength and conditioning program for their 2 to 3 sports. They will act as liaison between the Sports Performance Interns and the Sports Performance Unit.

Essential Functions

•Assist in the administration of assessments, testing and the strength and conditioning programs for 12 sports. Knowledge of NCAA rules.

•Develop and administration of the strength and conditioning programs for sports assigned to them by the Sports Performance Coordinator.

•Engage in meetings within the unit with hands-on and discussions about various topics within strength and conditioning.

•Act as liaison between the Sports Performance Interns and the Sports Performance Coordinator.

•Help in the maintenance and cleanliness of the Barry University Weight Room.

•This position receives work assignments primarily from the supervisor/manager.

•Guides work of others who perform essentially the same work. May organize, set priorities, schedule and review work, but has no responsibility to hire, terminate, review performance or make pay decisions.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in exercise science or related field is required.
• 12 months or less of work-related experience is required.
• Certifications through the NSCA (CSCS) or CSCCa (SCCC) is required
• Up to date First Aid, CPR and AED certification is required
• Relevant experience as a strength and conditioning coach/intern
• Ability to create and modify periodized strength and conditioning programs
• Must remain full-time and in good academic standing throughout term as graduate assistant.
• Decisions may affect a work unit or area within a department. May contribute to business and operational decisions that affect the department.
• Proficient in all Office Equipment & game management oversight
• Adept at Written and Oral Communication, rules education, presentations, committee work
• Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager; incumbent follows precedents and procedures, and may set priorities and organizes work within general guidelines established by supervisor/manager.
• Results are defined; incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction.
