Serve as a key member of the Intercollegiate Athletic department’s communications staff, assisting in the development of integrated strategies that forward the department’s mission. Perform social media and communications work and assist in the creative strategy, planning, and execution of all online programs. Reports to Director, Athletics Communications.
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Serve as a sports information contact for the media for various sport programs, including reporting results of sport contests to the media.
Arrange interviews and photo sessions with student athletes; counsel and advise student athletes regarding interviews.
Nominate and promote student athletes for honors and awards.
Record and file contest results, published articles, and photographs for historical reference; evaluate and update athletic department's website.
Track and promote achievements and milestones for student-athletes and coaches, update record books and media guides on a continual basis.
Interact with local, regional, and national media to place and pitch stories and ideas, enhancing the reach and visibility of Kent State Intercollegiate Athletics.
Execute digital strategy in conjunction with athletic communications staff, marketing and sales staff, coaching staff and University Communications and Marketing (UCM) to assist in driving and reaching goals.
Oversee graduate assistant and student workers to help develop graphic design templates for departmental sports teams and the department as a whole.
Assist sport programs and coaching staffs in promotion, visibility, and recruiting methods.
Build, manage, and maintain all relevant social media platforms, content, and programs.
Develop communication concepts to increase the department's revenue, to include ticket sales, corporate sales, fundraising, and marketing.
Grow the Intercollegiate Athletic department’s profile on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, other relevant social media platforms and email.
Oversee social media strategies and utilize platforms and other tools to maximize their effectiveness.
Constantly explore the latest developments in digital strategy and online activism to ensure Kent State Intercollegiate Athletics is on the cutting edge of new technology, tools, and platforms.
Develop online data reporting and strategy to effectively drive activity and support.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing, sports administration, graphic design, social media management or relevant field. Two years’ experience in collegiate sports information or relevant area. Must be able to work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends. Travel as needed with select teams to road and post-season events.
