Position summary: This is a part-time position with a competitive salary that runs approximately 10-11 months with an average work schedule of 22-25 hours per week. The assistant director works collaboratively with the sports information director to promote the College and its programs via the College’s 18 varsity athletic teams. This is an ideal position for a college graduate seeking experience in all areas of sports information/communications. An opportunity to earn a master’s degree while working is also an option as Western Michigan University is across the street, however, enrollment in a graduate program is not a requirement for this position nor is it paid for by Kalamazoo College.
Primary responsibilities This position involves all aspects of sports information, including but not limited to: • Serving as the primary sports information contact for several sports. • Managing statistics as official statistician at various sporting events. • Writing and publishing game recaps and other news releases. • Maintaining the photo library. • Editing and printing game programs. • Maintaining and updating the athletics web site (hornets.kzoo.edu). • Posting content to social media accounts. • Assist in overseeing live video streaming.
Opportunities also exist to gain experience in audio broadcasting and photography, but not required. Other duties may include historical research, publishing feature stories (video and/or written), etc.
Qualifications • A bachelor’s degree is required. • Previous experience working in a college sports information office is strongly preferred. • Experience scoring games with StatCrew, Presto Stats, or NCAA LiveStats (Genius) software is strongly preferred. • Strong writing skills, including working knowledge of AP style, strongly preferred. • Experience with InDesign/Photoshop is preferred. • Experience with PrestoSports or similar content management system is desired. • Willingness and ability to work nights and weekends. • Strong computer/technological skills. • Strong ability to multi-task, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
