Provides strategies and methods to increase and enhance Gonzaga’s athletic department’s image through the publication of communications designed to inform and promote Gonzaga University Athletics. The Sports Information Director is skilled at communications and promotion via a variety of media. The Sports Information Director develops day-to-day content creation strategy and implementation, in addition to reporting results and highlights of all events to local, regional and national media. Must be able to multi-task, often producing varied, detailed and accurate communications under tight deadlines and with limited supervision. The position works in a team environment in association with the other external staff members (ie: marketing, annual giving, major gifts, ticket office, sports info, alumni, academics, etc.). The individual must cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with coaches, members of the media, and demonstrate timely and accurate response to requests with information that is a credit to the University, its coaches and student-athletes. The individual must be proactive in promotion of story lines that tell the Gonzaga story and advance the University’s mission.
MEDIA & PUBLIC RELATIONS – 40% Identifies opportunities to create and disseminate information about Gonzaga University Athletics student-athletes, coaches and sports team that positively promote the department to the general public, benefactors, donor prospects, season ticket holders, athletic alumni, parents and fans.
Develops and executes the athletic communications and public relations plan in collaboration with various stakeholders and peers. The plan establishes the distribution and format of messages with an emphasis on creative multimedia delivery designed to maximize interest among a broad audience.
Provides administrative and functional supervision for student employees and game day employees.
CONTENT CREATION - 40% The position plans, researches, produces and/or creates original printed and electronic media from concept to completion using applicable software and publishing tools.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to: creating media releases and advisories, creating pre-and post-game stories and/or multimedia assets, identifying topics and developing feature stories, historical record-keeping and archiving of statistics and photographs, production of content in part or in whole for publications such as game programs and other periodicals, compilation and publication of record books, as well as regular updating and publishing of information to the various Gonzaga Athletics websites including GoZags.com and other sites; advises and consults with staff and external entities concerning various projects of the external operations areas; direct photo shoots to meet desired historical and publishing objectives; complete work with a high degree of exactness and collaboration.
Leads the Sports Information area in strategy and creation of digital assets for GoZags.com, mobile applications, and department social media accounts, including strategy and driving implementation. Works collaboratively with other staff members on overall department social media strategy, monitoring and implementation.
Responsible for content collection, design and editing of documents such as annual reports, newsletters, social media, game programs, specialty publications, radio content and other media related to athletic communications.
Contribute to all phases of publication process (design, layout, photography, editing, printing, distribution) for athletic communications.
Creatively execute projects, ensuring consistency throughout all components.
WEBSITE MANAGEMENT - 10% Contributes to the development and evolution of the GoZags.com website. This process includes but not limited to exploring best practices within the industry, collecting feedback from internal constituents (marketing, sports information, IMG, ticketing, annual giving, etc.) about their needs / desires for GoZags.com, implementing tactics on the Web site to maximize marketing revenues, contributing to the overall graphic design consistent with the current branding standards of Gonzaga athletics, website mapping, analyzing effective utilization of the various pages and working with the third party vendor to ensure that the site is created to match Gonzaga’s needs and desires. Help edit existing pages and sections of the GoZags Web site ensuring accuracy and timely publishing of information.
Individual will be responsible for supporting the website as a sales and marketing tool to support ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, athletics fundraising and department public relations.
NCAA COMPLIANCE Employees of Gonzaga University’s Athletic Department must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations, and acknowledge this compliance as part of an evaluation process.
Other Functions Assists other members of the Athletic department during peak periods and with special workload projects.
Contribute to Athletic Department’s involvement in University programs by participation in committees/activities of the University and develop positive professional relationships

Three years of experience in sports information, graphic art/design, marketing or public relations. Expertise in PhotoShop, InDesign and/or other Adobe Creative Suite software with proven skill in the area of graphic design.
Proficient in NCAA Genius Live Stats and StatCrew software.
Experience using content management websites, such as Sidearm.
Skilled in producing precise and highly-creative graphic designs.
Motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to work within a competitive and collaborative environment and meet critical project deadlines.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must have the ability to solve problems, make decisions, multi-task and prioritize ongoing and new projects successfully.
Must be able to work collaboratively with sports information, athletic marketing, coaches and others relative to media events and announcements.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed to oversee press checks, direct photo shoots, and pick-up and deliver printed projects.
-Five years sports information, graphic design, marketing or public relations work experience
-Master’s Degree Experience in athletics or related field Experience in higher education
-Experience engaging new media entities Knowledge of Dreamweaver and HTML (or similar software applications)
-Experience in a dynamic PR, news-generating or promotional environment
