The Linfield University Athletics Department is recruiting for an Assistant Head Softball Coach. The Assistant Head Coach has both coaching and administrative responsibilities that include but are not limited to, the administration of daily softball operations, recruiting, team training, practice organization, scouting, and other duties as assigned by the head coach. Experience as an athlete or coach at the intercollegiate level is highly preferred. Review of applications will begin immediately and will close on Friday July 16, 2021.
Work Schedule: *This full-time position is scheduled as a .83 FTE receiving a 10-month offer working approximately August 15 through June 15. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday 11am 7pm.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
*Evaluate and recruit prospective student-athletes
*Assist head coach in responding to contacts, attending recruiting tournaments, contacting high school and travel ball coaches, and organizing on-campus visitations for prospective student-athletes
*Establish and maintain a recruiting database
*Assist head coach with travel arrangements and schedule
*Assist in running the strength and conditioning program for the softball program
*Plan and conduct softball camps and clinics
*Assist with scouting of opponents
*Assist with monitoring academic progress of current student-athletes
*Assist with all fundraising activities
*Assist head coach with daily practice plans
*Assist with field maintenance and game field preparations
*Assist with video input, organization, and analysis of game and practice footage
*Oversee three weeks of fall non-traditional practices with assistance from head coach
*Arrange Junior Varsity softball schedule, travel arrangements, meals, etc. and serve as head coach for all Junior Varsity softball games
*Preference given to candidates with a strong background in strength and conditioning and have an NCAA approved strength and conditioning certification or are willing to fulfill the requirements needed to obtain certification
*Other duties as assigned by head coach
Other Administrative Responsibilities
*Administer and coordinate workers for all home football games
*Oversight of home men's and women's basketball game management until softball practice starts in January
*Oversight of work-study for volleyball game management including set up and tear down of home events
*Oversight concessions and workers for men's and women's home basketball until softball practice starts in January.
*Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
Bachelor's degree and three years of successful head coaching at the College or high school level or an equivalent combination of education, coaching and/or playing experience.
CPR/First Aid certification required (may be obtained on the job).
Due to recruiting and overnight travel, applicants must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, the ability to become/remain certified to drive Linfield University vehicles.
Previous coaching and recruiting experience at the NCAA Division III level.
Strength and Conditioning experience and certification, e.g. CSCS
Work is physical in nature and requires constant seeing, hearing, talking, walking, and standing. Frequent running and climbing stairs. Occasional sitting and physically demonstrating softball and physical education techniques. Constant exposure to weather elements. Requires operation of a motor vehicle and valid driver's license. Requires evening and week work during softball season.
