The Director of Performance Science will spearhead an elite athlete high performance team at Army West Point. The mission will be to contribute to the wellness of cadet-athletes, assist cadet-athletes by optimizing competitive performance, and contribute to the readiness of Army West Point’s teams.
The position, reporting directly to the Deputy Athletics Director/Chief Operating Officer and working closely with the Associate A.D/Head Athletic Trainer, Assistant A.D./Director of Strength and Conditioning and Head Football Strength and Conditioning Coach will collaborate with members of the High Performance staff to establish priorities for the area, align performance services with clearly defined performance goals, and manage the delivery of the support services in pursuit of those goals.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Position:
30% - Working in collaboration with all High Performance units (Strength & Conditioning, Sports Medicine, Sports Nutrition, Sport Psychology), develop and lead the implementation of a comprehensive plan for the High Performance team that optimizes the impact on the holistic development of Cadet Athletes. Build weekly and monthly training reports regarding team training and/or fatigue status using data from available sport science technologies such as GPS, Force Plate, Wellness Questionnaires, etc, work with High Performance staff members to inform decision-making process
20% - Lead the education/implementation of: -New Athlete Management platform -Load monitoring (training/practice, game) -Recovery strategies -Athlete evaluation and testing
15% - Lead the research into and review of performance-based questions and evaluate available technologies and programs
15% - Collaborate with campus faculty and staff on athlete performance initiatives, supporting faculty members in identifying research opportunities.
15% - Help create, lead, and facilitate professional growth and development curriculum across all High Performance areas.
5% - Other duties as assigned
Masters degree in exercise/sport physiology, biomechanics or related field
Five to seven years of experience working full-time at a NCAA institution, professional sports organization, and/or other elite sporting institutions (e.g., USOPC, etc.).
Two years experience in statistical analysis and data visualization
Proficiency working with performance analytics, corrective exercise, recovery technology/GPS monitoring is highly preferred.
Ability to work effectively with a variety of people including various stakeholders of the program and institution.
Must have exceptional skill to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Demonstrate good judgment, intellectual curiosity and the ability to respond quickly and deal successfully under pressure. Leads by example with high personal expectations, character, and appropriate advocacy for the department.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize assignments and work independently to complete assignments despite various deadlines, competing requirements and changing priorities.
Programming Languages—R, Python, SQL, MatLab
Experience with data analysis and visualization using Microsoft applications including Excel and PowerBi
Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed during peak competition and recruiting seasons.
