SUMMARY OF POSITION: National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS) has an immediate opening for an Athletic Performance Coach. This position is responsible for implementing a safe and scientifically supported year round athletic performance program for the NCAA Division I, Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) men’s basketball program and other teams as assigned. This position reports to the Head Athletic Performance Coach @ NIFS and is a full-time salary position with benefits. Evening, weekend and holiday hours to be expected with possible traveling.
•Design and organize strength, power, speed, agility, flexibility and conditioning programs for assigned sports.
•Work with head coaches to plan and facilitate conditioning needs on a daily basis.
•Assist the Sports Medicine staff in rehabilitation and injury prevention as needed.
•Program, monitor and present athletes and workout progress via software tools.
•Test, track and interpret acute and chronic training responses.
•Research the industry to stay well-informed of new skills, methods and technology.
•Provide energy, passion and encouragement in the pursuit of elite athletic performance and successful student-athlete experiences.
•Develop and maintain effective working relationships with NIFS Athletic Performance staff and IUPUI Athletic Department personnel; constructive and frequent communication with sport coaches and athletic trainers is expected.
•Maintain an understanding of and assure adherence to regulations, policies and procedures as identified by the IUPUI Athletics Department, the NCAA and NIFS.
Bachelors or Masters Degree in exercise science, kinesiology, athletic training or related field from an accredited college or university.
2+ years of strength and conditioning experience at the collegiate level or above is preferred.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
Successful candidates will be asked to submit a basketball specific summer conditioning plan.
