The Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach oversees all aspects of the men's and women's swimming program in conjunction with the Head Diving Coach to include: on-deck coaching during competitions and practices, recruitment of student-athletes, academics, NCAA compliance, strength and conditioning and administrative responsibilities.
40% Direct all phases of the swimming program in conjunction with the Head Diving Coach including : prepare student-athletes for competition and direct competition effort in all scheduled contests, direct all recruitment endeavors and see that they are all in accordance with SEC, NCAA, and LSU rules and regulations, prepare and administer management of budget, submit yearly equipment and requests and inventory; Work with the Cox Academic Center for Student-Athletes to develop and maintain an excellent program to meet the academic needs of student-athletes (counseling, tutorial, study hall, academic advising, etc.).
30% Continuously evaluate assistant coaches to ensure high standards in the areas of teaching athletic skills, motivation of student-athletes, recruitment of student-athletes, dedication to University responsibility, and all other factors important to coaching; Provide the support needed for the professional development of the assistant coaching staff, to include the establishment of good human relationships within the coaching staff, providing for participation in coaching clinics, etc.
20% Maintain and develop a staff of assistant coaches that are nationally recognized for their coaching records and their contributions to the coaching profession; Establish working environments for the assistant coaches that are conducive to good coaching and that free the coaches to concentrate on their primary functions; Establish and maintain an efficient organizational structure with clearly-defined goals, responsibilities and lines of authority; Provide opportunities for training and professional development; Work toward providing a schedule that is competitive as well as entertaining for the fan; Work with the support staff for the overall benefit of the student-athletes, department and the swimming and diving program.
10% Work with the Athletic Director and the Athletic Communications office to develop and maintain a positive public image for the swimming program; Attend functions to promote the University, its Athletic Department and its swimming program; Make available herself/himself and other members of their staff to speak for alumni association, Tiger Athletic Foundation and LSU groups for speaking engagements with service organizations like Kiwanis and other groups on and off campus; Make herself/himself available for additional radio and TV interviews.
Bachelor's degree with five years experience coaching swimming at the collegiate or professional level; Knowledge and commitment to NCAA rules and regulations.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
