Coach will assist with all aspects of NCAA Division I Women’s Cross Country / Track & Field Program, including coaching of the throwing events, recruiting for those events, monitoring of student-athlete development and academic achievement, coordination of all ground transportation for away contests, compliance with NCAA, Conference and the University of Hawai’i rules & regulations, adherence to all University of Hawai’i and department policies & procedures as well as other duties assigned by the Head Coach. Additionally, Coach must maintain collaborative working relationships with administrators and coaches in the department, other college offices and appropriate members of the media, donors and other individuals interested in the sports program.
1.Design, implement and monitor training programs and workouts for the throwing events. Participate in practice sessions and provide instruction to the student-athletes from the basic fundamentals of technique to the advanced methodology of training theory and optimization of performance.
2.Lead recruiter for all throwing events.
3.Assist with the identification, evaluation and selection of prospective student-athletes who have the ability to excel in the classroom and be competitive in the sport. Actively seek out and encourage a diverse group of prospects and assist them through the application process.
4.Work collaboratively with Compliance, Student-Athlete Services, Academics staff to qualify and process prospects in a timely and efficient manner. Make recurring contacts by phone and all permitted methods, off-campus visits and evaluations, and coordination of campus visits.+
5.Assist with overseeing the academic progress and success of student-athletes including promoting and maintaining an environment that encourages academic achievement as measured by academic eligibility, retention and graduation.
6.Responsible for the procurement of practice and competitive apparel/footwear and for maintaining inventory of those items as well as all throwing implements.
7.Promote and foster a positive team environment, appropriate behavior and sportsmanship by team members. Be responsible for the conduct of the team members both on and off the track.
8.Promote and maintain an environment where the physical, mental, social and academic well-being of all student-athletes are a priority.
9.Coordination of all ground transportation during the T&F season for team travel.
10.Plan and participate in sports camps and clinics.
11.Actively participate in fundraising, promotional and public relation activities for the sports program.
12.Produce a Team Newsletter on a quarterly basis.
13.Responsible for performing the duties of a Campus Security Authority as defined by University policy and federal law with regards to the Clery Act.
14.Maintain confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with federal and state laws and University of Hawai‘i policies.
15.Know, recognize and comply with the laws, policies & procedures and rules & regulations governing the University of Hawai’i and its employees and the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and of the affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future. Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if there is reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees, students or others, have occurred or will occur.
16.Perform other duties as required.
Graduation from a accredited four year college or university;
One (1) year of experience coaching throws at the college or university level;
Knowledge of women’s track & field as competed at the collegiate level.
Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays and travel
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
Valid driver’s license.
First Aid, CPR and AED certification by the employment start date.
Computer, cell phone, and social media technology competency.
or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Division I women’s track & field coaching experience.
Familiar with the ARMS Compliance Software.
Competitive/coaching experience in the pole vault.
Ability to understand and work effectively in Hawai‘i’s multi-cultural society.
