The Drury University Department of Athletics invites applications in a national search for the position of Head Club Men’s Triathlon Coach. The new men’s triathlon program at Drury University will be a club team that will begin competition in the 2022-23 academic year. This full-time position is responsible for leading, managing and administering all aspects of the club men’s triathlon program in accordance with applicable governing body and University rules and regulations while: 1) creating an atmosphere where graduation is facilitated through participation in intercollegiate athletics, 2) teaching student-athletes to be productive citizens who contribute to society for life, and 3) meeting the roster size goal annually. The head coach of this club team must have a philosophy that values the educational and personal well-being of its student-athletes while emphasizing the university and athletics department mission, vision, core values and culture.
Traditional responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1) coaching effectively in practice and competition; 2) energetic and engaged recruiting to meet the roster size goal annually; 3) promoting an atmosphere of student-athlete academic performance; 4) scheduling and budget management; 5) fundraising; 6) program organization; 7) teaching life skills to student-athletes; 8) assisting the athletics department with game operations for other sports; and 9) engaging the university and local community by building relationships with constituent group members, and by personal and team participation in community service activities.

A bachelor’s degree is required (graduate degree preferred) and a minimum of two years of experience coaching the sport (college coaching experience preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
An understanding of, and commitment to the fundamental role that intercollegiate athletics, when properly implemented, can play in the educational development of Drury student-athletes
Possession of a thorough knowledge of the sport, a sophisticated understanding of coaching strategies, and an ability to enhance student-athlete development
Leadership skills and the ability to manage team dynamics
Budget management experience
Ability to recruit qualified student-athletes to an academically competitive institution
Knowledge of and commitment to applicable governing body rules
Ability to promote an atmosphere of compliance within the program and monitor the activities of all assistant coaches (if applicable) and other individuals directly and indirectly involved with the program
Ability to work successfully with other departments and constituency groups on campus and in the community
Ability to motivate and develop student-athletes academically and athletically
Ability to work evening and weekend hours
Ability to travel for work-related activities (e.g., competitions and recruiting)
Attention to detail while maintaining an understanding of the big picture
Strong organizational skills resulting in the ability to prioritize workload and meet short-term deadlines on a regular basis
Strong written and verbal communications skills
Ability to supervise assigned staff (if applicable)
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Commitment to working with multicultural populations and an awareness of issues affecting women, minorities and international student-athletes
Ability to manage competition scheduling, budgets, fundraising and teaching life skills to student-athletes
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Proficiency with appropriate computer applications and general office equipment and software
