Executive, Executive - Associate Athletics Director
Primary Position Function/Summary: The Senior Associate Athletic Director will provide departmental leadership in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion for both student-athletes and DIA staff and have sport administration and oversight duties for assigned teams. This position will operate as a member of the executive athletic department staff and will work in conjunction with all university departments to plan and execute efforts towards DEI education and student-athlete development.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Provide advocacy, education, and programming for sustaining a climate of equity and inclusion within the DIA. Activate, oversee, manage, and support the DIA’s diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic plan which focuses on enhancing and sustaining an inclusive culture within the DIA? guiding student-athletes as they navigate issues related to social injustice? recruiting, supporting and retaining diverse staff? and diversify spectatorship around athletic events. Engage with donors to share the DIA’s vision and plan for diversity, equity and inclusion. Manage the DIA’s Diversity and Inclusion Program Fund.
Sport Oversight Provides performance appraisals for assigned Head sport coaches and administrative assistant and determines need for recognition or disciplinary action Recommends annual salary increases for personnel within sports programs Provide leadership and counsel to coaches and support units Key participant in the identification, recruitment, hiring and retention of Head/Assistant Coaches and other designated personnel for those sports under supervision Assist in the scheduling of non-conference games and preparation of contracts for assigned sports Monitors sport program budgets, ensuring fiscal integrity while maintaining the ability to recommend adjustments as needed Responsible for establishing and communicating program priorities and performance expectations and assessing operations against these criteria Manages, interprets, and applies NCAA, Big Ten, University and departmental policies and procedures, recommending exception when needed Accountable for upholding NCAA, Big Ten, and University and departmental rules and regulations and submitting documentation as required by these bodies
Strategic Leadership Performs a broad range of daily, on-going and annual administrative services for assigned sports Aid in the development and implementation of programs and processes which serve to assure the welfare of all student-athletes Routinely initiates independent communication and interaction of with a wide range of individuals from inside and outside the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics Works closely with individuals and groups to build relationships and promote sports programs, the DIA, and the University Monitors processes and systems to ensure compliance with rules and regulations Uses initiative and experience to resolve issues pertaining to program matters Conducts short- and long-range planning of key business objectives Work under general supervision and reports to the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director, Sport Administration
Education: Required: Bachelor’s degree Preferred: Master’s degree Experience: Required: Approximately 2 or more years of demonstrated leadership experience in developing initiatives and programs in equity, diversity and inclusion? approximately 3 or more years of demonstrated experience working directly with head coaches Preferred: 5 years of supervisory experience in NCAA Division I collegiate athletics
