The Spirit Coordinator and Head Cheer Coach will oversee all aspects of cheer and mascot program and develop, write and implement cheerleading routines for performance at intercollegiate athletics events. This individual will schedule cheerleader rotations for home and away football games, volleyball matches, and men's and women's basketball games as well as supervise practices and monitor fitness regimen for cheer squad members and mascots. In addition to games and competitions, the position coordinates all public appearances for cheer and mascots and organizes youth camps and clinics to raise additional support for the program.
*Coordinating and overseeing annual cheer and mascot tryouts, in addition to conducting year-round recruiting
*Monitoring academic progress of cheer squad and ensuring that members are making progress toward graduation
*Working collaboratively with marching band, pep bands, dance team, spirit groups and other organizations
*Maintaining community-outreach program to promote Purdue University and Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics
*Developing and implementing routine for annual Nationals competition
*Setting and monitoring goals for strength and conditioning goals and stunting skills.
*Creating and executing recruiting program to attract a diverse and talented pool of applicants.
*Arranging all phases of travel/lodging for all out-of-town events to be attended by spirit squads (i.e. ?department/JPC functions, public appearances, cheer camps, and cheer competitions)
*Scheduling, supervising and monitoring public appearances by Purdue Pete and/or cheer team members at schools, retirement homes and other venues, ensuring that the spirit squad maintains and projects a positive image for the University and Intercollegiate Athletics
*Conceiving and scripting original cheers, chants and routines for games and competitions and instruct cheerleaders and mascots in execution
*Coordinating event performances with University Bands, Sports Information, Event Management, Promotions, Purdue Sports Properties and Hall of Music Productions for football and men’s and women’s basketball video productions Make split-second decisions to adjust and adapt during events, which are "live" and require poise and sound instincts
*Participating in planning and execution of football and men’s and women’s basketball live video productions, including providing original programming ideas, routines and coordination during games
*Creating or supervising the creation of original music, dance and stunt routine to be performed at biennial national’s competition
*Developing, submitting, defending and monitoring annual cheerleading operating budget
*Planning, organizing and executing youth camps and clinics in order to generate additional revenue to support spirit squad program
2 years coaching experience
Ability to communicate and adhere to University, Big Ten Conference and NCAA policies, procedures, rules and regulations and American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors Safety Certification
Coaching at the collegiate level
