Under minimal supervision, responsible for planning, organizing, directing and/or controlling all aspects pertaining to athletic functions of assigned department’s internal and external customer service, human resource and financial management operations pertaining to areas including (but not limited to) equipment, compliance, public outreach, ticketing, advising, and training. Acts as a catalyst between the department and its customers and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.
• Provide performance nutrition education, counseling, and support to student-athletes, coaches, strength coaches, athletic trainers, administrators, and parents. • Coordinate medical nutrition therapy for specialized conditions such as: anemia, celiac disease, diabetes, disordered eating, food allergies, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, illnesses, menstrual dysfunction, etc. • Collaborating with Psychology and Wellness and team doctors regarding clients with eating disorders/disordered eating. • Manage the Sports Nutrition and Fueling Station budgets. • Oversee the Fueling Station including inventory, ordering, and education and staffing. • Work as a member of a multidisciplinary High Performance Team including athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, team physicians to ensure the overall health of the student-athletes. • Develop and present sports nutrition team education sessions. • Oversee and educate on current ferritin, calcium and vitamin D protocols and manage distribution of any NCAA compliant supplements. • Collaborate with the dining hall regarding menus for high performance fueling, catering, and to-go program. • Provide body composition testing and collaborate to set appropriate weight and body composition goals for student-athletes. • Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary Student Athlete Wellness Team. • Evaluate supplements for efficacy and efficiency and advise/educate student-athletes and support staff on evidence-based recommendations. • Plan and coordinate training table meals and travel nutrition for individual teams. • Design and coordinate effective pre, during, and post activity fueling and hydration strategies for individual teams. • Conduct hydration testing and oversee administration of tests for all student-athletes. • Communicate/oversee nutrition messages with athletes via social media such as Instagram. • Develop programs to assist athletes with life skills like cooking, grocery shopping, menu planning and time management. • Oversee graduate students interns in the University of Utah sports dietetics program and conduct mid-year and end-of-year evaluations. • Collaborate with the NUIP department on campus to evaluate potential master’s candidates and future sports nutrition interns. • Advise graduate students’ Focus Area of Study (FAS) graduate research projects. • Oversee sports dietitians in the fellowship program and conduct mid-year and end-of-year evaluations. • Manage payroll for full-time, part-time, and work study students.
• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency and 4 – 5 years of progressively more responsible management experience. • Experience in a management role overseeing a staff • Experience as a dietetic intern preceptor • Registered Dietitian (RD) • Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) • Ability to work a non-standard workweek which may include nights, weekends, and holidays • Effective oral and written communication skills • Strong interpersonal skills • Excellent time and priority management skills • Capability of delegating tasks/duties effectively and efficiently to fellows, student intern and volunteers • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
• Master’s Degree in nutrition strongly preferred • 7+ years of experience working with athletes preferred
