The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics staff consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in various sports events annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). In the Fall of 2016, a $17M on-campus aquatics complex, including world class diving facilities, open for our student-athletes and aquatics community. We are currently seeking a Head Diving Coach. This is a one-year contract position, with the opportunity for renewal.
Description of Position: The Head Diving Coach is responsible for organizing and managing all phases of a Division I Diving program, including recruiting, team travel, strength & conditioning, student-athlete academic monitoring, tourney scheduling, budget management, public speaking, and community/donor relations. This position will report to collaborate with the Head Coaches for the Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving programs and report to the Swimming & Diving sports Supervisor.
Coaches team at practices and competitive events.
Oversee academic and personal well-being of student-athletes.
Assist in building a nationally competitive Division I program through successful recruiting and retention of high-level student-athletes.
Collaborates with Head Coach, Athletic Trainers, and Strength & Conditioning Coach to design both academic year (in season and out-of-season) and summer conditioning programs.
Assist with budgeting, reconciling expenses, and proposing purchases for sports program.
Serve as key liaison to the broader Cal Aquatics community, engaging in alumni, fund raising, and other key stakeholder activities.
Other administrative duties as assigned.
Previous Division I or Elite Club level coaching and/or diving experience.
Must have highly advanced and effective inter-personal, motivational, and team leadership skills.
Must be able to demonstrate creativity, sound judgment and decision-making, be an effective problem solver, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Must be recognized expert in team sport and coaching principles for student-athletes.
Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and regulations of the Pacific-12 Conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the Berkeley campus of the University of California adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
