Director of Athletics and Recreation

The Director of Athletics and Recreation is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the intercollegiate athletics program, including ensuring the quality and integrity of the 18 varsity sports programs, resource management and revenue acquisition. The Director of Athletics and Recreation reports to the College President and works closely with Vice Presidents for Enrollment, Finance and Operations, External Operations, Academic Affairs and Student Engagement. The Director of Athletics and Recreation will also work with other constituents to develop and implement goals for the intercollegiate athletics and recreational programs in alignment with the College’s strategic vision. This position is also responsible for overseeing the campus recreational program. II. RESPONSIBILITIES: Collaborate with the College President to develop a strategic vision for intercollegiate athletics including goals and measurable objectives. Ensure compliance with Title IX and foster an atmosphere of equity, diversity and inclusion. Serve on the President’s Cabinet and collaborate with other senior leaders to develop and shape an institutional vision for the College. Ensure the College’s student-athletes maintain exemplary graduation and academic success rates and ensure that the intercollegiate athletics program is student-centered and contributes to the educational mission of the College. Ensure that the perspective of student-athletes is heard and considered whenever appropriate, including ensuring vibrancy of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Determine the use or resources to support goals and objectives through the development, management and implementation of an annual operating budget. Develop and implement long-term financial planning for intercollegiate athletics. Ensure that the use of all resources is congruent with the highest standards of fiscal accountability and ethical conduct. Collaborate with the Office of External Relations to develop and implement strategies and programs to increase fundraising and promote donor support for the athletics program. Develop and implement sports marketing and promotional activities to increase revenue sources for the athletics program. Collaborate with the Office of Enrollment to develop strategies for effective recruitment and retention of student-athletes. Ensure Head Coaches have clearly articulated student-athlete recruitment responsibilities and the education and resources to meet their stated objectives. Collaborate with and support the College’s Faculty Athletics Representative enabling their work with intercollegiate athletics. Provide information to the Faculty Athletics Representative when requested to facilitate his/her presentations to the Faculty Assembly. Establish and refine the intercollegiate athletics organizational structure to ensure effective management of LaGrange Athletics staff and their respective areas of responsibility. Provide visionary leadership and serve as a resource to LaGrange College Athletics staff, ensuring accomplishment of goals and inspiring a culture of excellence. Ensure all athletics program staff members have position descriptions, annual written and verbal performance assessments and provide mentoring and professional development as appropriate. Promote and effectuate athletic excellence on conference and national levels for select intercollegiate sports programs. Represent the College at conference and national athletic governance association meetings. Oversee the campus recreational program. Produce reports on the status of the intercollegiate athletics program and recreational programs as requested by the College President. Provide verbal and written reports to the College’s Board of Trustees as directed by the President. Work in coordination with the College Controller to complete and submit all NCAA and the U.S. Department of Education reports on an annual basis. Represent the athletics program on College Committees as requested by the President. Engage in community service, pubic relations and other outreach activities that enhance alumni and public respect for the College and its athletics program. Ensure that the intercollegiate athletics program operates as an educational model, emphasizing a balance of academic and athletic performance outcomes as demonstrated by competitive success and graduation rates of student-athletes. Conform to the highest standards of professional conduct regarding compliance with institutional policies and procedures and adherence to the rules and regulations of athletic governance organizations of which the institution is a member. Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all staff, student-athletes and external constituents through a positive and constructive approach to all assignments, respectful collaboration and appropriate conflict management skills. Perform other duties as assigned by the College President.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Licenses/ Certifications: Current and valid driver’s license required. Certification in CPR, First Aid and/or AED may be required. |
