The Big Ten Diversity Internship program annually provides funding for an entry-level administrative position at each member institution. The internship is intended to provide access, recruitment and leadership development experience for candidates interested in college athletes. General position summary: As a primary role, this position is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Student-Athlete Development unit and supporting the administration with organizational planning. The intern will have the opportunity to interact with Athletic Department staff, campus constituencies and various corporate and community partners. Will occasionally work nights and weekends.
Essential duties:
- Report directly to the Assistant Athletic Director, Student-Athlete Development
- Assist with the creation and implementation of all Maryland Made Student-Athlete Development Career Readiness, Leadership Education, and Identity Development programming
- Provide support for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiatives department-wide
- Coordinate and facilitate NCAA mandated workshops on Sexual Assault Prevention Education and Relationship Violence Prevention
- Lead the Individual Mentoring Program Assisting Career Transitions (I.M.P.A.C.T.) program
- Secondary Advisor for Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
- Hold office hours Career Readiness one-on-one appointments; resume building, graduate school planning, internship search and other career readiness topics
- Provide support for the First-Year Transitions Seminar, Maryland Cares programs and Athlete Identity Transitions
- Attend meetings of the Maryland Made Team, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Gossett Student-Athlete Center (GSAC)
- Assist the M Club, Letter winners Club, in planning and executing the Letter Jacket Presentation Ceremony
- Manage the visiting athletics director’s suite for all home football games; also assisting the M Club Executive Director in hosting alumni
- Other duties as assigned
Length of Internship: This is a 35-hour per week paid internship with a one-year appointment (July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022).
