Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine (Asst. AD for Sports Med) the Assistant Athletic Trainer will be required to assist with the development, coordination, and administration of a comprehensive sports medicine program for participants of Guilford College intercollegiate athletics. The successful candidate will have a commitment to the care and equitable treatment of student-athletes and staff. They will serve in the capacity as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and will perform professional, administrative and hands on essentials for the successful implementation and development of the Sports Medicine program.

  • Understands and appreciates the mission of Guilford College and is able to relate it to all constituencies.
  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of the athletic training room.
  • Work with the Asst AD for Sports Medicine and the Team Physicians in providing comprehensive healthcare to our student-athletes.
  • Maintains medical records on student-athletes to include physical examinations and screenings, insurance information, injury evaluation, and treatment records.
  • Acts as a liaison with academic offices for student-athletes when returning to the classroom after an injury
  • Provides athletic training services for the college’s athletics department, including attendance at scheduled team practices, all home competitions, and away competitions as NCAA or conference required or deemed necessary.
  • Assists with conflict coverage as determined by the Asst AD for Sports Medicine.
  • Provides emergency care when indicated.
  • Assists with maintenance of the athletic training room equipment.
  • Assists with annual pre-participation physicals.
  • Works in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual athlete needs.
  • Upholds the NATA Code of Ethics.
  • Remains current on all state and national requirements for certification and licensure. 
  • Agrees to comply with all regulatory agency statues, College, ODAC, and NCAA bylaws, legislation, and mandates.
  • Coordinates and schedules physical examinations and medical referrals when necessary for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete, and files all associated insurance claims for said referral(s).
  • Supervises the organization and administration of drug testing per NCAA and department policies.
  • Participates in and lead in-service meetings within the Sports Medicine Department about new techniques that prevent injuries and better facilitate the injury process. 
  • Supervise both graduate and undergraduate athletic training students.
  • Serve as the Drug Testing Coordinator; serve as the onsite test coordinator; maintain accurate drug testing records; verify invoices received from drug testing group; coordinate counseling appointments should a student-athlete fail a drug test.
  • Sport assignment may be changed at the discretion of the Asst AD for Sports Medicine.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the College by performing all other duties as determined by the Athletics Director and Asst AD for Sports Medicine.                                                                                                  
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine, Physical Education or related field.
  • BOC certification required.
  • Must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) 
  • Must be eligible to apply for and hold a North Carolina state licensure.
  • Must be familiar with NCAA governing rules. 
  • Must have up to date CPR/AED licensure from the American Red Cross.
  • Must be able to work with a diverse group of people, in intense or emergency medical situations
  • Must be able to meet continuing education requirements as mandated.
  • Must be able to satisfy the athletics event schedule for travel and work on weekends and evenings as assigned
