Must have successful recruiting experience at a D1 level with student-athletes that are at a high-academic and high-athletic level. Evaluate the skills, abilities, character and potential of prospective student-athletes to be successful within the athletics program and at UC San Diego. The Assistant Coach must have a commitment to the philosophy of providing a competitive Softball program that emphasizes integrity and the educational welfare of its student-athletes and also strives for athletic excellence. Follow athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UCSD Athletic Department and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms. The ideal candidate is competitive with strong leadership capability and has the ability to motivate and communicate with scholar athletes. The candidate will have experience working with pitchers at the collegiate level via demonstration and communication.
Specific pitching coach duties will include preparing pitching workouts and teaching advanced pitching mechanics and fielding skills for the Division 1 level. The incumbent is well organized, works efficiently, can prepare scouting reports, can utilize video tagging software, and is successful with time management. The ability to pitch batting practice will be a great asset for this candidate. Prepare statistical analysis and reports. Assist with coordinating contest, event and tournament management, and with recruitment of student-athletes, and basic knowledge of and compliance with all NCAA regulations. Responsible for conducting all activities in compliance with NCAA, Big West and UC San Diego rules and regulations. Strong knowledge of sound principles and rules governing specified sport. Personal experience with specified sport.
Proven ability to use all athletic equipment and computer software programs needed to perform job duties.
Ability to utilize video tagging software to analyze critical moments in games by athletes and opponents and communicate those to the coach(es) and team.
Proven ability to provide statistical analysis and reports in regards to the specified sport. Ability to complete forms thoroughly and to keep them current.
Strong writing skills to prepare clearly understandable correspondence and reports.
Outstanding leadership, management, and interpersonal skills to relate to a wide diversity of faculty, staff, students and community members.
Good interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility. Ability to speak before large and small groups with evident poise and enthusiasm and ability to effectively motivate team members.
Strong administrative and organizational skills. Ability to follow up and review, to insure that no details are overlooked and that all arrangements have been made. Ability to follow work schedule as outlined by Head Coach and department.

Triton teams have captured 30 national championships while 44 squads have finished as national runners-up and 49 others have achieved national third-place honors. All told, UC San Diego has won 251 national, regional and conference championships. UC San Diego student-athletes have won 138 individual national championships. A remarkable 1,309 Tritons have been named to All-America teams. UC San Diego student-athletes have excelled academically as well, earning 36 prestigious NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarships and 78 Academic All-America selections, including a program-high 10 over the 2015-16 campaign. Consistently, over 55 percent of student-athletes earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, placing them on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. In 2016-17, UC San Diego posted a fourth-place finish out of 266 Division II schools in the Learfield Directors' Cup, an award emblematic of the best overall athletics department in the country. Since moving to the NCAA Division II level for the 2000-01 academic year, UCSD has placed in the top seven programs in the country on 12 different occasions and finished second overall twice.
