Primary Position Function/Summary: The Media Communications Specialist will be responsible for coordinating publicity for assigned sports and assisting in publicity for departmental activities. In addition, this position will create material to assist media in coverage of assigned teams and assist with game management tasks. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Work under general supervision and be responsible for assisting in the daily management and coordination of publicizing departmental activities. Coordinate all publicity (press releases, media notes, programs, statistics and records) for assigned sports, including writing feature stories for departmental and University publications. Update FightingIllini.com regularly and manage social media efforts (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, et al.) for assigned sports and department as a whole, engaging fan base and providing immediate informational updates. Serve as historian for assigned sports and department as a whole archiving season information both digitally and in printed form. Travel with sports teams, as assigned, to report results and event information to local media. Assist in the management of the DIA’s website for assigned sports.
