The Associate Director of Development for Athletics is responsible for raising major gifts to support the mission, vision and priorities of Marquette University. This position will focus on the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of identified athletics donors. The position will work on identified goals and objectives established in coordination with Marquette University and the department of intercollegiate athletics.
Responsibilities: •Develops and executes an individual fundraising business plan annually •Manages a portfolio of approximately 40 prospects with capacity to make a major gift of $100,000 or more while working towards an individual annual fundraising goal of $1.25 Million •Regularly identifies and contacts additional prospects through research and referrals •Meets individually with prospects and volunteers. Responsible for making 80 face-to-face visits annually designed to move prospects toward making a philanthropic commitment to the university •Makes personal gift solicitations. Management of the process includes maintaining a comprehensive understanding of University priorities, preparation of the solicitation materials, conducting strategy meetings, and preparing briefing materials for President/Vice President of Advancement/Athletics Director/others involved in solicitation •Assists in developing and executing an annual fundraising business plan for the athletics department, with a primary emphasis on increasing the number of donors and dollars raised to the Blue & Gold Fund •Works closely with the athletics sales team to develop a strategy on increasing annual fundraising through premium seat sales for men’s basketball •Meets regularly with the Associate Athletics Director and Senior Director of Development, Athletics to assess projects, review strategies and track progress toward meeting fundraising performance benchmarks •Serve as the primary fundraising liaison to assigned sport teams in an effort to grow Sport Excellence Fund support •Maintains appropriate contact with prospects and records all contact in University Advancement prospect management system •Attends university events and volunteer meetings, often during the evenings and weekends; represents the university to external constituents •Participates in Advancement monthly staff meetings/prospect tracking meetings/committee meetings/quarterly staff retreats
Education: This position requires a bachelor’s degree.
Experience: Work experience should include three to five years of development-related experience, preferably including fundraising and/or outside sales, volunteer management, strategic planning, and personal solicitation. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work with colleagues in a team environment.
