Southern Utah University (SUU) is accepting applications for an Associate Athletic Director of Compliance. The main responsibility is to ensure compliance with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), State of Utah, Big Sky Conference, and University rules and regulations. This includes oversight for financial aid, rules interpretations, playing/practice accountability, eligibility, and administration of the National Letter of Intent (NLI), among other regulations. This position will work closely with the Academic Support Department of Athletics to monitor continuing eligibility of 17 NCAA Division I programs. This position will serve on the athletics executive leadership team.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Ensure compliance with NCAA, Big Sky, State of Utah, and University regulations
•Administrate National Letters of Intent (NLI’s)
•Prepare NCAA squad lists and eligibility
•Provide interpretations of NCAA rules to coaches and student-athletes
•Educate and monitor coaches and administrative staff regarding compliance
•Meet annually with each team regarding eligibility and educating student-athletes on rules
•Inform constituency of proposed legislation and gather input on those proposals
•Report to the Faculty Athletic Representative regarding the state of compliance
•Administer the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR)
•Complete all required NCAA reports and provide information to the University Controller for the purpose of completing the EADA report
•Athletic contact with the University Registrar, Financial Aid, and Admissions to ensure compliance
•Other duties as required from a compliance staff
Education, Training and Skills
Bachelor’s degree. Masters degree preferred.
Knowledge of compliance office in an NCAA Division I institution.
Ability to analyze, interpret, and report in an accurate and timely manner.
Ability to effectively communicate compliance related information orally and in writing.
Ability to work in a complex office environment while helping to maintain an atmosphere of professionalism, cooperation, service, and teamwork.
Three years experience at an NCAA Division 1 institution working in compliance
Working knowledge of compliance software
