The Head Coach has responsibility for the overall operation of the Men’s Golf program in accordance with University, conference and NCAA regulations.
The position is a 100% time, 12-month contract position with full benefits. The Head Coach must have a commitment to the philosophy of providing a competitive NCAA program that emphasizes integrity and the educational welfare of its student-athletes and strives for athletic excellence within the University’s mission.
Regular duties include coaching effectively in practices and successfully in tournaments and competition, developing student-athletes athletically and academically, organizing and implementing a recruiting plan, effectively utilizing scholarship funds to attract and retain top scholar-athletes, preparing and monitoring annual operational, recruiting, and scholarship budgets, participating in promotional and fundraising activities, and developing community and alumni support.
The incumbent must follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms. Must have highly advanced and effective interpersonal, motivational and team leadership skills to work effectively with diverse student-athletes, parents of student-athletes, staff and alumni.
Administrative responsibilities include competitive scheduling, budget development and implementation, purchase, maintenance and inventory of equipment and supplies, coordination of team, professional and recruit travel, and all compliance rules requirements. Coordinate contest/event, tournament management, recruitment of student-athletes, and knowledge of and compliance with all NCAA, conference and UC San Diego rules and regulations. Preferred successful collegiate head coaching experience at a high-ranking academic institution, working knowledge of NCAA regulations, and a Bachelor’s degree. Work schedule will be arranged with supervisor, but often includes evenings, weekends and holidays.

Highly advanced and effective interpersonal, motivational and team leadership skills to work effectively with athletic participants, staff and parents of student athletes.
Recognized expertise in team sport and coaching principles for student athletes. Successful collegiate coaching, teaching, and/or competing experience in specified sport.
Demonstrated effective recruiting and use of scholarship funds in recruiting and budgeting skills
Proven ability and experience to conduct camps and/or clinics in specified sport. Strong knowledge of sound principles and rules governing specified sport.
Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Skill to arrange home contests, ensuring availability of facilities and coordination of venue set-up, officials and game management.
Skill to arrange away contests, ensuring coordination of travel rosters, travel advance requests, transportation, food, lodging, equipment, expense and trip reports.
Ability to interact effectively with others in pursuing departmental objectives, including various student groups and campus organizations.
Good interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, flexibility and ability to communicate ideas effectively. Ability to foster an environment that supports equity, diversity and inclusion.

Triton teams have captured 30 national championships while 44 squads have finished as national runners-up and 49 others have achieved national third-place honors. All told, UC San Diego has won 251 national, regional and conference championships. UC San Diego student-athletes have won 138 individual national championships. A remarkable 1,309 Tritons have been named to All-America teams. UC San Diego student-athletes have excelled academically as well, earning 36 prestigious NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarships and 78 Academic All-America selections, including a program-high 10 over the 2015-16 campaign. Consistently, over 55 percent of student-athletes earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, placing them on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. In 2016-17, UC San Diego posted a fourth-place finish out of 266 Division II schools in the Learfield Directors' Cup, an award emblematic of the best overall athletics department in the country. Since moving to the NCAA Division II level for the 2000-01 academic year, UCSD has placed in the top seven programs in the country on 12 different occasions and finished second overall twice. UC San Diego won its seventh California Collegiate Athletic Association Commissioner's Cup title in 2017, an award symbolizing the best overall athletics department in the prestigious conference.
