Clark University is accepting applications for a newly-created position in its athletic department. The Assistant Director of Athletic Communication and Alumni Outreach intern will work closely with the Sports Information Director to promote Clark’s 17 NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletic programs. The position is funded by the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant and intended to expose the individual to the day-to-day operations of the athletic department. Clark University is a NCAA Division III institution that participates in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
The Assistant Director will have an essential role in the daily operations of the Sports Information Office. This position will assist in elevating the social media and overall online presence of Clark Athletics by working collaboratively with members of the athletic department and the university advancement team. Furthermore, the Assistant Director will be instrumental in developing and implementing innovative ways to enhance student and alumni engagement. Duties and Responsibilities •Assist in publicizing and promoting Clark’s 17 intercollegiate programs through traditional media relations, web site maintenance and social media engagement. •Prepare press releases and game stories to be published on the ClarkAthletics.com website, as well as distribution to external media including social media sites. •Utilize the Presto Sports Statistics and Stat Crew Program for statistical record keeping. •Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to identify stories and author articles about current Clark student-athletes and alumni for publication in the alumni magazine and other venues, with the purpose of enhancing the brand and recruitment of new student-athletes. •Conduct pre- and/or post-game interviews with coaches and student-athletes to be posted online or transcribed. •Regularly attend and oversee Clark home contests, with responsibilities including managing student workers, providing in-game statistics and coordinating video web streaming, photography coverage, and social media engagement. •Promote and increase visibility of athletic contests and events through social media campaigns and other marketing initiatives. •Capture video at athletic events, including editing game highlights and cinematic recaps; creating hype videos and featured content for social media. •Train student workers on a variety of jobs to staff all home contest events. •Collaborate with the Director of the Clark Fund and Associate Director of Marketing for the Clark Fund and Alumni & Friends Engagement to create marketing materials relevant to Athletics fundraising. •Assist with the creation and execution of an Athletics-focused fall giving challenge. •Work with the Director of the Clark Fund to create a marketing plan that will elevate awareness about contributing to Clark Athletics and help to demonstrate the areas of need for funding for teams and Friends of Clark Athletics. •Assist in coordinating and executing special events such as conference championships, Clark University Hall of Fame, Clark Athletics Night of Honors, NCAA Division III Week, and Diversity and Inclusion Week. •Serve as a key member of the athletic department staff, attending departmental staff meetings and trainings and assisting with major events sponsored by the department. •Fulfill all requirements of the NCAA Ethnic Minorities and Women’s internship program.

The NCAA grant provides annual salary and $3000 annual reimbursement for professional development. In addition, Clark University will provide meal-plan and housing, annually. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree, required; master’s preferred. • Must have a background working in athletics; desire to work in college athletics, preferred. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills. • Strong computer skills; prior experience using Presto Sports Statistics and Stat Crew Program, preferred. • Familiar with social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, etc. • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, preferred. • Knowledge of NCAA rules, preferred. • Must be flexible to attend home games including nights and weekends. • Prior experience working with and contributing to a diverse workplace with the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of constituents on campus.
