The Colby College Department of Athletics seeks an assistant equipment manager beginning as soon as possible. This is a full-time, year-round appointment. The assistant equipment manager will assist the head equipment manager in all aspects of maintaining the equipment room for the Department of Athletics. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date inventory records for all 32 varsity sports, utilizing excel and online databases
Support head coaches in procurement activities to ensure necessary stock levels
Provide a world-class experience and high level of service to Colby student athletes
Train and supervise student workers on policies and procedures relative to inventorying, laundering, issuing, and maintaining apparel and equipment
Coordinate laundry services for all sports including but not limited to laundering loops, uniforms, towels, etc
Maintain clean and organized equipment room areas and ensure proper storage of athletic equipment used in and around the facility
Fit, clean and repair equipment in accordance with National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) and Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) standards
Maintain all student athlete records with regards to fitting, maintenance, and repair
Foster, build, and maintain relationships with vendors and sporting goods companies
Reconcile all shipping and receiving activities within prescribed timelines
Ensure compliance with all NCAA and NESCAC rules relating to equipment operations
Work closely with other departments on campus to affect optimum support
Support special event planning and operations as required
Attend department meetings
Secondary summer assignment to be determined

KEY RELATIONSHIPS: This position has significant interactions with Department of Athletics’ staff members and student athletes. Additionally, the position interacts with faculty, staff, students, alumni, vendors, and other outside constituencies.

General office, athletic facility, and campus environment. The position requires work outside and in inclement weather with frequent early morning, evening, and weekend work required throughout the year with those dates determined by the head equipment manager. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 50 pounds is required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is required.

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or post-secondary education preferred
Experience with an athletic equipment inventory system a plus
Ability to work a dynamic schedule with frequent evening and weekend hours
Proficiency in Microsoft Office essential

Attention to detail and accuracy are critical
Must be able to work independently, exercise judgment, manage projects with minimal supervision, and adjust as new projects are assigned

About Colby College
Colby is a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and has 28 intercollegiate sports that compete at the Division III level, and four programs (men’s and women’s Alpine and Nordic Skiing) that complete at the Division I level. The department also hosts a variety of club and intramural sports.
