Eckerd College is a proud member of NCAA Division II. With 14 teams and more than 200 athletes, the Eckerd Tritons have had remarkable success in the classroom as well as in their sports. Tritons have an NCAA DII Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 95 percent—meaning 95 percent of our athletes graduate within six years of enrollment—which ties us for eighth in the nation.
Eckerd is a founding member of the Sunshine State Conference (SSC), formed in 1974. The SSC has claimed 106 NCAA Division II National Championships since its inception while maintaining one of the highest aggregate ASR ratings in the country.
In 2017–18, Eckerd sent five programs to national tournaments (Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Coed Sailing and Women’s Sailing), and Women’s Soccer qualified for postseason play at the conference level. These six postseason appearances are the highest number in a single season in the history of Eckerd Athletics. The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach supports the head coach in all aspects of Eckerd College’s Division II Women’s Basketball program. The assistant coach is responsible for pre-season training and conditioning, assisting with recruitment, academic monitoring, scheduling, individual workouts, practice preparation and implementation, mentoring, and game coaching. All of these responsibilities are to be conducted within the mission of the Intercollegiate Athletics program.
The mission of the Intercollegiate Athletics program is to act in partnership with the academic program, recreation and other offices of the Student Life division to provide the best possible student experience and to maximize the opportunities for learning at the undergraduate level. The purpose of intercollegiate athletics at Eckerd College is to provide the student-athlete with opportunities for self-testing, skill development and the pursuit of excellence commensurate with that expected in the classroom.
Essential Functions (list primary functions of the position)
Responsible for the safety and well-being of all women’s basketball student-athletes
Assist in managing the day to day operations of the women’s basketball program.
Plan and implement daily training sessions of women’s basketball players.
Plan and organize team travel and meals.
Assists the head coach with the recruiting process in conjunction with all NCAA, SSC, and Eckerd College rules and regulations.
Assist Head Coach with academic monitoring and progress of players.
Manage women’s basketball social media accounts in conjunction with all NCAA, SSC, and Eckerd College rules and regulations.
Help with the citizenship and character development of women’s basketball players.
Work collaboratively with Sports Information personnel, departmental support staff and athletic training personnel.
Assist as needed with home athletic event game operations in the fall and spring seasons.
Assist with the ordering of team gear and equipment.
Works in conjunction with all athletics department personnel in serving the mission of the college to provide excellent, innovative undergraduate liberal arts education and lifelong learning programs in the unique Florida environment.
All other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or Head Women’s Basketball Coach.
Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities needed upon entry into the position)
Excellent Computer Skills / Graphic Design Experience a plus
Prior collegiate basketball playing or coaching experience required
Experience recruiting college level student athletes
