The Athletics Director at William Peace University oversees all aspects of the athletics program and ensures compliance with conference and NCAA policies and guidelines. The Athletics Director is instrumental in leveraging and creating opportunities for growth of the athletics program and advancement of the university. The Director must have high standards of integrity understanding the balance of athletic and academic success. The Director oversees/manages administrative, financial, marketing, communications, recruitment, public relations, and compliance activities for the department. The Director reports to the Vice President for Student Life and is a member of the University Council.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Athletics Director (AD): * Provides strategic leadership, development, supervision, and operational management of WPU’s competitive intercollegiate athletics program. The AD provides visionary leadership in planning and growth and maintains an athletics program that is committed to the university’s mission, values, and strategic priorities. * Models, fosters, and oversees the integrity, cohesion, and successful presence of athletics on campus, with consistent connections to the mission of the University. * Develops policies to ensure effective and efficient department operations. * Hires, orients, trains, supervises, mentors, and evaluates coaching staff. * Oversees membership in appropriate conference organizations and for ensuring compliance with all rules and regulations established by the NCAA and the USA South Conference. * Integrates athletics into overall campus life and promotes ideals of student-athletes on campus. * Plans and produces programs and events that recognize and honor student athletes. * Oversees, prepares, and manages budgets. * Assigns and supervises coaches of intercollegiate sport programs. * Coordinates annual plans for each sport. * Oversees annual recruiting plans for each sport. * Oversees and approves schedules. * Oversees facility procurement and scheduling of facilities * Oversees annual assessments of intercollegiate programs and shares appropriately with supervisor and administrators. * Works closely with Admissions in developing and implementing strategies for recruiting and retaining students. Ensures that all teams have sufficient rosters. * Partners with and coordinates activities with the Office of Advancement to garner external support for Athletics. * Ensures that President is informed and apprised of Athletics and conference details as appropriate per NCAA policies. * Attends athletic and university events when possible. • Masters degree in a related field • Five years of progressive, successful experience in athletics administration • Experience in coaching • Experience successfully working within NCAA regulations. • Commitment to academic excellence. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Distinguished record of accomplishment as an athletics director or associate/ assistant athletics director. • Experience coaching a collegiate or professional athletic team. Demonstrated success in advancing student academic and athletic excellence. • Demonstrated success in cultivating donors, excellent people management and communications skills.
