United Soccer Coaches is a membership association that advocates for, serves and supports soccer coaches at all levels of the sport including pro, college, youth and high school. Its members tend to be career coaches and serious part time coaches.
The Director of Membership is responsible for development, promotion and direction of all programs and services that foster and enhance membership within the association. The Director of Membership will manage the day to day operations of United Soccer Coaches’ Membership including budgeting, financials, technology, marketing, services and staff. The Director of Membership also develops strategy, provides direction, planning, implementation and measurement of membership programs and initiatives.
The Director of Membership will be responsible to:
Develop strategies to recruit new members and retain current members. Manage, track and evaluate all membership and renewal activities, including new member and renewal outreach, special appeals and group sales programs.
Serve as part of the United Soccer Coaches executive team to collaborate with other Directors to create programs and initiatives that leverage assets and facilitate communication between all aspects of membership and United Soccer Coaches.
Partner with volunteer leadership to review the strategic direction and support activities.
Oversee the advocacy efforts of the association as a significant member benefit. This includes but is not limited to the Advocacy Council.
Manage and develop a medium-sized team including four direct managerial reports: Member Services, Institutional Membership (group sales/clubs and high school associations), Advocacy and College Services.
Review membership structure, value proposition and pricing to maximize member benefits, membership growth and revenue to association. Develop, implement, support and analyze the “United Soccer Coaches member lifecycle” from first contact throughout their membership journey.
Develop and meet or exceed annual membership budget targets and monthly and quarterly forecasts
Routine and special reporting including regular KPI reports and quarterly reports for the Board of Directors.
Identify, analyze and report on metrics to monitor membership growth, trends and financial results to support decision-making and strategic planning. Develop models of demographics, growth rates and financial performance.
Work with marketing to write, design and implement effective recruitment and retention strategies, develop direct communications with members and leaders and manage print and online content. This includes prospect list development to achieve growth in new markets.
Develop and manage affinity and other programs with third party vendors to maximize member benefits and revenue to United Soccer Coaches.
Develop and implement a Member Satisfaction program and monitor progress. Engage staff and volunteers to support the program and drive increased member satisfaction.
Conduct regular market research as needed to identify new markets, market size, market trends, member demographics, etc.
Develop, promote and direct programs and services, which enhance and enable growth and engagement in students & young professionals including the 30Under30 program.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:
Despite the indication in the job posting, a National diploma from United Soccer Coaches is not required for this position.
· Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related discipline or equivalent level of professional experience.
· Minimum of five years of association membership, marketing and/or comparable experience
· Minimum of five years of staff management experience; proven track record of leading a service oriented team working with members, volunteer leaders, committees and/or clients
· Strategic and creative thinking skills combined with project management ability and demonstrated leadership.
· Significant CRM experience, preferably Salesforce/Fonteva or similar, including but not limited to designing, running and analyzing reports related to member activity.
· Consumer marketing knowledge and experience including social media, web and print
· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver clear and effective messages to various audiences
· Ability to collaborate while also demonstrating strong leadership and initiative
· Facilitation skills including running effective meetings, negotiating and tactics, decision making, facilitating group dynamics, and conflict resolution
Soccer industry knowledge and contacts in soccer or sports.
Spanish-language (reading and writing)
Coaching experience (any level)
Based at United Soccer Coaches Headquarters in Kansas City, Mo
Some travel required and will include some weekend work, offsite meetings, etc.
