General Overview of Each Position: Head Coach/Directors of Sport:The Head Coach or Director of Sport is the lead coach in each of our core sports, responsible for creating the curriculum and overseeing the day-to-day implementation of the sports program, basically planning, leading, and coaching each sport at camp. We are seeking a Director/Head Coach for the following core sports: baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, dance, and flag football. These positions play a key role in creating and defining the Core Sports programs at JCC Maccabi Sports Camp and take a visible leadership role at camp. They serve as the primary instructors for teaching fundamental skills as well as more advanced strategy and leading game play. Head Coaches are supported by a team of Assistant Coaches. This role is typically filled by Head or Assistant coaches at the collegiate, club or high school level.
Counselors/Assistant Coaches: Counselors chaperone, supervise, and guide campers through the day-to-day elements of camp, ensuring emotional and physical wellbeing, and serving as a role model. Qualified candidates are enthusiastic, energetic, creative and responsible individuals who exhibit sound judgment and an understanding of the impact they will have on each camper’s experience. A love of working with children (and significant experience working with children) is key to the success of this position.
In addition to being assigned to a cabin of campers, Counselors also serve as a specialist, with most being assigned as Assistant Coaches in one of our core sports (baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, dance, running, and flag football). Opportunities exist to serve as a specialist in areas such as photo/video, program support, music/song leading, medical support and more. This position is typically filled by college students currently playing collegiate sports or having experience through the high school level. Coaching experience is not necessary.
Athletic Trainer: The Athletic Trainer is a member of the Medical Team, working in conjunction with the Camp Nurse(s) to run the Health Center and treat the needs of our campers. The most comment ailments and injuries include: allergies, colds, coughs, sore throats, stomach pains, sprains, strains, muscle soreness, cuts, bruises, cramps, and fractures. The Athletic Trainer is primarily expected to handle the sports-related injuries and may also need to assist with other medical situations.
Competitive salary based on experience and includes room and board. These are all seasonal, temporary positions. Some positions require a 7-week commitment (June 9 - July 29), others are available for shorter 2, 4 or 6-week commitments.
Head Coaches - must have coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate, high school, or club level
Assistant Coaches - coaching experience not required but must have background playing the sport (all Assistant coaches will also serve as camp counselors, generally college age candidates)

Additional Salary Information: Salaries vary depending on position and are paid based on full summer work or by the 2-week session, depending on experience and job responsibilities. All are paid positions and include room, board, and travel stipend.
About JCC Maccabi Sports Camp
JCC Maccabi Sports Camp is an overnight Jewish sports summer camp located just outside of San Francisco in Atherton, California (Palo Alto area). Our camp welcomes boys and girls in grades 4 through 11 from around the world who want to develop their skills in one of our core sports - baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball and tennis. Through intensive clinics and creative programming, the JCC Maccabi Sports Camp is a transformative experience for young Jewish athletes who are passionate about sports and desire to advance their skill levels. There are also plenty of other sports and camp activities mixed in with the core values of a Jewish summer camp experience. There is no requirement to be Jewish to attend or work at our camp.
