The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking a Director, Equipment.
Responsibilities: The Director, Equipment position manages daily athletic equipment operations for 30 intercollegiate teams and supervises staff and oversees operations in three equipment room locations.
Analyze the apparel and equipment needs for 30 intercollegiate sports programs. Anticipate seasonal requirements of each sport, determine proper lead time needed to ensure delivery for all equipment and apparel by sport. Ensure that all athletes are fitted with proper equipment/apparel for their respective sport insuring maximum protection, fit, size and proper appearance.
Oversee the purchase, issuance, maintenance, inventory, collection, and storage of practice and game equipment.
Work closely with coaches to assist in creating and adhering to equipment budgets.
Be available at all times to ensure the successful staging of athletic events. Serve as liaison with opposing universities with respect to logistics, troubleshooting and general planning of game day events.
Responsible for daily job duties for sports equipment managers and related part-time support staff. For away games, responsible for overall coordination of the transportation of equipment and, when necessary, the travel of staff.
Ensure that all equipment is in compliance with safety regulations and NCAA guidelines.
Manage apparel contracts.
Hire, train, and evaluate equipment room staff.
Establish employee work rules and policies and ensure compliance with University rules and regulations.
Hire and schedule staff to meet all staffing requirements for special events, game day events, and to ensure that the equipment rooms are open for operation at least 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Supervise staff in athletic service functions, i.e. equipment issuance & collection, locker & lock issuance and clearance, daily laundry needs, and preparation for practice, home and away games.
Coordinate and conduct monthly meetings with staff.
Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training with a college-level program.
Three to five years of equipment room experience.
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
Excellent customer service skills.
The ability to manage multiple tasks, remain organized, deal with a heavy workload, and prioritize work.
Experience using computers.
Must have supervisory skills.
Self motivated with the ability to work independently.
Experience with a computerized inventory tracking system.
