The Office of the Registrar, an administrative service center for the University of Denver community, takes an active role in assisting students and faculty with registration and advising by providing the tools needed to review academic progress, create class schedules and successfully register for classes. Specialized services include, but are not limited to: register for classes prompt transcript distribution degree evaluation and certification enrollment and degree verification classroom scheduling withdrawal processing We provide pertinent information regarding academic policy, federal regulations, and procedures as related to the procurement, maintenance and release of educational records of our current and former students.
In order to assure appropriate institutional control and compliance with NCAA, conference, University and federal regulations, position has primary decision making authority for the certification, evaluation and tracking of student-athlete eligibility. Position certifies student-athletes academic eligibility and is responsible for applying and interpreting complex rules and regulations in order to ensure compliance with the bylaws, rules, regulations, and policies that apply to student-athletes at the University of Denver. Working closely with Assistant Registrar, position assures appropriate institutional and academic control of athletics programs. Position administers all aspects of institutions veteran’s benefits and ROTC programs, serving over 300 students. Duties include advising students; certification of veteran’s benefits; maintaining institutions eligibility for veteran’s benefits; preparing annual report to Veterans Administration; represents institution with Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense and Colorado State Certifying Authority; represents institution to department of Army and Air Force for ROTC programs. Prepares schedule of classes for ROTC classes. Assures students meet ROTC requirements.
Exhibiting the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with regard to adherence to NCAA, Conference, University, and the Department of Athletics Code of Ethics and rules regulations. Certifies monitors student-athlete academic eligibility in terms of NCAA, Summit or other conference regulations, and institutional academic policies by processing and maintaining degree progress reports (APRs), monitoring registration, monitoring completion of course work, minimum GPA, declaration of major, etc. Regulations include, but are not limited to, institutional academic policies and NCAA bylaws regarding Academic and General Eligibility Requirements (Article 14 of Division I Bylaws). Certifies academic and general eligibility for the institution by assessing academic credit earned on a term by term basis (including summer and interterm) and completing and submitting proper institutional and conference eligibility forms. Provides Conference squad lists to Compliance Office and Faculty Athletics Representative prior to the start of each academic term. Monitors, certifies and documents student-athlete academic status daily to ensure student-athletes continue to meet eligibility requirements. Produces and submits annual NCAA Graduation Success Rate and Academic Progress Rate reports, completes corrections, and requests adjustments to the NCAA APR, in accordance with NCAA and federal regulations. Evaluates and processes DU, Summit, NCAA athletic eligibility forms for all DU intercollegiate sport teams utilizing various sources: Compliance Assistant Internet, NCAA Eligibility Center website, Banner Student system, admission files, transfer credit evaluations, and financial clearance records and other resources. Maintains appropriate records (physical, Banner, CAi) documenting initial and continuing eligibility. Assures data integrity for Student and Admission data systems (Banner) and that data (e.g., grades, grade point average, credits toward degree) are maintained properly in Banner and CAi. Coordinates development of athletic eligibility module of Banner Student system and development of interface between Banner and CAi. Assists in the timely compilations of NCAA, Sumit or other conference reports. Processes incoming transfer and some freshman history reports to determine if transfer or freshman student-athletes are eligible to participate. Initiates transfer credit evaluation process for prospective student athletes upon request of Division of Athletics. Evaluates a variety of education credentials; consults with departments and other institutions about academic programs and transfer policies and procedures. Works with and support Athletics Compliance staff and Student-Athlete Support Services with development, coordination and implementation of effective and efficient communication with other departments and DU staff (e.g., advising, faculty, coaches, administrators). Alerts coaches, Student-Athlete Support Services and others to registration procedures. Attends compliance and certification meetings with Assistant Registrar, Athletic Department personnel and Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR). Informs Assistant Registrar, Registrar, Faculty Athletics Representative and Athletics Compliance Staff of athletic eligibility issues. Produces reports and information for Office of Student-Athlete Support Services, Compliance, and the FAR regarding student-athlete academic performance compliance, registration and full-time enrollment status of student-athletes throughout each term. Maintains current knowledge of NCAA bylaws, conference regulations, and DU compliance and policy matters, communicating this to others as needed. Communicates with faculty as necessary with regard to grading policies and deadlines to assure compliance with eligibility regulations. Assures grades and other relevant information are available in a timely fashion. Works collaboratively with other Registrar, Admission, Financial Aid staff and Athletics compliance staff to verify eligibility information and to provide continuous service for athletic academic eligibility. Articulates credits for each student-athlete to determine applicability of credit toward degree. Verifies student-athletes have completed declaration of degree prior to start of seventh quarter of full-time enrollment or 75 credit hours and confirms graduation status. Responsible for developing and updating athletic certification policy and procedure manual. Military Programs (50%)
Certifies approximately 300 students for veterans benefits in five distinct programs. Determines institutional and VA benefits and authorizes payments to veterans under federal rules, regulations and guidelines. Monitors program payments and reports enrollment adjustments necessary to ensure timely and accurate payment of benefits. Maintains State accreditation for degree and certificate programs to maintain certification for GI Bill programs. Prepares federal and state audit responses and reports to ensure program compliance with federal law. Ensures institutional compliance with Veterans Affairs regulations. Serves as institutional liaison to Veterans Administration staff in Denver, St. Louis, and Washington DC. Serves as institutional liaison to State of Colorado Veterans Certifying authority, coordinating annual review of programs. Maintains current knowledge of Veterans Assistance programs, ROTC programs and relevant DU academic programs, communicating to students, parents, academic units, faculty and others as needed. Works closely with Financial Aid, Bursar and other units as necessary to assure veteran students are supported appropriately. Administers Army and Air Force ROTC programs at the University of Denver. Creates class sections for ROTC courses. Maintains accurate catalog descriptions of courses. Secures academic approvals for ROTC courses as necessary. Advises DU ROTC students on institutional and ROTC policies and procedures. Assures DU students academic records are accurate, working with ROTC offices in Boulder and others. Input grades for tuition assistance. Ensures institutional compliance with Department of Defense regulations and maintain degrees and majors in appropriate system. Position serves as back-up for Transcript and Grading Coordinator.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of relevant rules, policies, procedures, regulations & laws. Proficiency with an integrated administrative system such as Banner & current software programs. Knowledge of and ability to adhere to university and departmental policies and procedures. Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments. Knowledge of standard office practices & procedures including filing. Ability to work independently & efficiently to meet deadlines with minimum supervision. Ability to provide & demonstrate excellent customer service. Ability to plan, organize resources, prioritize tasks & meet deadlines while working on multiple tasks. Ability to maintain professionalism while effectively working with diverse groups & and various situations. Strong attention to detail.
Bachelor’s Degree. 2 - 3 years’ experience in higher education or with compliance related work.
Experience in one or more specific assigned duties: athletics certification, veterans programs, ROTC programs.
