Overview: Assist the Head Women's Basketball Coach with the coaching and developing a nationally competitive Division I Basketball team. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: coaching student-athletes? recruiting? game management? scouting? academic monitoring? practice organization? summer camps? compliance? travel? In addition to other administrative duties as assigned.
Essential Functions: Administrative:
Assist in building community awareness within the Athletics Department, including assist in all community service opportunities and prepare speaking opportunities for student-athletes at community service events.
Coordinate and provide assistant with various special projects including but not limited to ordering all awards in a timely manner for the banquet; ordering and organizing prizes for the Bulldog games; and compiling a workable list for Alumni communication.
Assist the Head Coach in any administrative capacity, including gathering and organizing the holiday money in a timely manner.
Assist Head Coach in recruitment of student-athletes who can compete successfully on a level consistent with program expectations, and who can be successful academically, including designated geographical areas set by the Head Coach.
Assist in the recruitment of prospective athletes within the framework of the university, department, conference and NCAA
Responsible for planning unofficial and official visits with student-athletes.
Maintain up to date records of compliance issues, including phone logs, contact sheets, phone numbers, and evaluations.
Responsible for player development, focusing on perimeters, ball handling, and passing.
Evaluate point guard play and incorporate strategies to improve.
Observe players while they perform to determine need for individual or team improvement.
Assist in the organizing and facilitating of camps/clinics, including summer workouts and weekly shooting workouts.
Responsible for developing a plan for tryouts for walk-on's and the gray squad, including obtaining the proper paperwork and signatures.
With scouting student-athletes, create a method to digitize and log video in an orderly fashion; coordinate Synergy breakdown with other coaches; and film breakdown / player breakdown / game plan prep.
Organize, schedule, and attend the film sessions, keeping the lines of communication open with the coaches and the student-athletes.
With oversight by the Head Coach, oversee all aspects of the Little Dogs Camp.
Work with the Camp employees to complete the hiring and paperwork.
Assist with all other camps as needed.
Assist Head Coach in creating and reinforcing an environment of academic achievement, expectations, and success that supports and encourages academic progress and graduation; monitor the academic progress of student-athletes; monitor class attendance and study halls if necessary.
Assist Head Coach in coaching team at competitive events. Assumes full team responsibility for organizing and conducting competitive events.
Assist Head Coach in team aspects such as daily (team) decisions
Propose the strategies, goals and objectives for the sports program on a short and long-term basis.
Represent and promote professional conduct, university good will and high standards at all promotional and media related events including games.
May participate in fundraising activities for the program and department.
Maintain an effective channel and level of communication and follow-through, emphasizing relationships with sport administrators and support services.
On court duties of demonstrating and communicating technique.
Assist Head Coach in community relations.
Assist Head Coach in fundraising.
Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education or by an equivalent international institution of higher education.
Played collegiate basketball or minimum of five (5) years of experience coaching or managing at the collegiate level.
Have strong communication and motivation skills.
Knowledge of NCAA rules and policies.
Coaching philosophy and teaching concepts must be compatible with those of the Head Coach.
Ability to work cooperatively with coaches, staff, faculty, students, and members of the community.
Commitment to academic integrity and compliance with University, conference and NCAA regulations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and project a professional attitude.
Ability and willingness to support the equity and diversity commitments of the department.
A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations
Preferred Education, Experience and Knowledge:
Master's degree in related field
Experience with Synergy and Fast Scout Software
Microsoft Excel and Word understanding
