The University of South Florida, member of the American Athletic Conference, located in Tampa, Florida is seeking an experienced, dynamic and dedicated professional for the position of either an intern or Graduate Assistant for Student-Athlete Enhancement. This position Reports to the Associate Athletic Director and Assistant Directors of Student-Athlete Enhancement, these positions will provide support for approximately 450 student-athletes and 150 coaches and staff of the USF Athletics Department. As a member of the athletics staff, these positions must adhere to all University of South Florida Athletic Department policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University of South Florida. These positions will primarily assist with the areas of Career Development, Community Engagement, Leadership Advancement, Personal Enhancement, and the Selmon Mentoring Institute, while also supporting other areas as needed. Specific work areas are outlined in detail below: Selmon Mentoring Institute: The intern/GA will assist the director of the Selmon Mentoring Institute with all aspects of the program. Serve as the teaching assistant for the SDS 3341 and SDS 4942 career development courses. The intern/GA will be required to attend all class sessions and events, help with class planning and preparation, evaluate assignments, assist with recruitment, tracking, and program evaluation, and have oversight of the program website, marketing, and social media.Career Development: The intern/GA will assist with career development programming and workshops including but not limited to resume workshops, networking nights, and career field trips. Additionally, the intern/GA will provide support to students who request assistance with finding employment, internships, job shadows, and resume help.Community Engagement: The intern/GA will assist with department-wide community engagement and outreach initiatives including compliance approval, planning, execution, and detailed tracking for internal programming and community initiatives as well as external requests from the community.Leadership Advancement: The intern/GA will assist with developing and facilitating a Leadership Academy in accordance with the department strategic plan. This includes developing formal programming as well as planning and facilitating elements of the Leadership Academy. Additionally, the intern/GA may assist with facilitating leadership workshops and trainings above and beyond those contained in the Leadership Academy. Personal Enhancement: The intern/GA will assist with personal enhancement programming and workshops including but not limited to freshmen/transfer/senior transitions, annual educational topics, and stress management.Honors and Awards: The intern/GA will oversee all aspects of honors and awards for student-athletes. This includes communicating requirements and deadlines to appropriate parties, gathering and sharing information with staff, compiling application materials, and submitting materials in a timely manner. The intern/GA will be responsible for assisting with numerous special events throughout the department. Some examples include the student-athlete Welcome Back Event, Graduation Receptions, the department-wide community event, and the Stampede of Champions annual red-carpet awards event. Additionally, the intern/GA will assist with Student-Athlete Enhancement events as assigned, which include but are not limited to the Selmon Mentoring Institute, community events, dining etiquette, personal enhancement and leadership workshops, and other student-athlete enhancement programs. Also, this position will serve as a liaison for multiple sports teams, coordinate annual meetings with student-athletes who are members of those teams, track and input data into databases, market and recruit for Student-Athlete Enhancement events, and give event/program assessment and feedback.
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree.
Sucessful candiates will have experience as a college student-athlete, experience working in college athletics and/or student affairs, major in associated areas such as education, psychology, sociology or other related field, and a desire to pursue a career in student-athlete development.
Additional Salary Information: This position will work approximately 20 hours per week
