Old Dominion University, a NCAA Division I member of Conference USA, is accepting applications for the Athletic Academic Advisor (full-time, 12 month) position. Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Services, the position will monitor academic progress of student-athletes in compliance with NCAA, Conference, and Old Dominion University rules and regulations. The Academic Advisor will work with coaches, staff, and professors to foster an atmosphere that retains student-athletes and culminates in graduation from the University while supervising a graduate assistant. Duties will include instructing and advising student-athletes, coordinating graduation plans, monitoring continuing eligibility including APR, and assisting with on-campus recruiting.
Required Education: Master’s degree in education, psychology, sports management/athletic administration, leadership and/or counseling or related field.
Required Qualifications: Several years of prior experience in athletic academic assistance. Experience in NCAA Division I athletic academics. Experience within an athletic administrative unit. Knowledge of and understanding of NCAA Division I rules and regulations. Strong organizational and administrative abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications: Several years of prior experience in football athletic academic assistance. Academic and student-athlete development program planning experience.
