Monmouth University invites applications for the inaugural position of Department Chair for a new master of science program in Athletic Training. The Chair will play a key role in the development of the program degree planned to begin in summer 2018, including responsibility for the overall planning, direction, and management of the program.
The Chair should be an enthusiastic and experienced leader who embraces the challenges of building a new graduate program. The Chair will oversee faculty hiring and Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accreditation, will develop curriculum, oversee the design and operation of laboratory space and program facilities, and coordinate daily operations. The position will also maintain ongoing leadership and collaboration with faculty to cultivate excellence in research/scholarship, teaching, and service. The position requires some teaching responsibilities.
Monmouth University grants masters degrees in fields of study from six academic schools and offers a doctorate in nursing practice. Currently approximately 1700 graduate students are enrolled in over 20 different degree programs. Graduate courses are offered at the main campus and the Monmouth University Graduate Center at Monmouth Park Corporate Center in West Long Branch, NJ. The Monmouth University Strategic Plan (http://theplan.monmouth.edu/) places an emphasis on growth in graduate education, expansion of graduate offerings, and continued reputation enhancement through graduate studies.
We are aggressively seeking growth in graduate programs within the health sciences. Growth in the School of Nursing & Health Studies over the past decade has included additional programs in Health Studies, Health and Physical Education, and Pre-licensure Nursing at the undergraduate level, and graduate programs in nursing at the masters and doctoral levels were joined by a masters Physician Assistant Program that will graduate its first cohort in May 2017. A similar search is being conducted for a Graduate Program Director, Occupational Therapy, another new masters program to be initiated by the University.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
Required Years of Experience: 3
Doctorate in athletic training or a closely-related field.
Initial certification from the Board of Certification as an athletic trainer for five years. Licensed as an Athletic Trainer in New Jersey or license-eligible.
Three years of experience in college or university teaching in a CAATE-accredited curriculum.
Experience as a Program Director, Department Chair, Clinical Coordinator or similar administrative assignment.
CAATE experience with accreditation standards and process.
Demonstrated experience with the CAATE accreditation standards and process, team building, experience securing external funding in support of programmatic or research initiatives.
Demonstrated evidence of scholarship productivity. Experience working as an athletic trainer outside of a college or university setting.
