Serve as an assistant athletic trainer to the 23-sport Division II Intercollegiate Athletics program. Supervise (under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer, the Team Physicians, and the Athletic Director) the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and care of athletic injuries and medical concerns. Develop, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive sports medical program for Intercollegiate Athletics as well as perform professional and administrative services as assigned. Athletic trainers will be present at all home and some away competitive events, maintain standard office hours, be present or on call for all practices. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced athletic training professional with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. The incumbent must follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department, NCAA, California Collegiate Athletic Association and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms. This position will require night and weekend work as well as travel.
Thorough skills associated with athletic injury prevention and the administration of therapeutic modalities, devices, and rehabilitation techniques, as well as of first-aid, athletic equipment, and injury assessment and treatment.
Detailed, specific knowledge of the competencies and domains of athletic training.
Strong manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine.
Thorough knowledge of electronic medical records systems. For positions associated with Sports Medicine, must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times, avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
