ABOUT THE POSITION
The Kinesiology, Health Sciences, and Athletics Department at Cuesta College, a two-year community college, invites applications for a full-time Head Softball Coach/Kinesiology Instructor, tenure track position in teaching and coaching to begin August, 2017. Teaching duties may include Kinesiology, Recreation, Health, and Activity courses. Moreover, this position will manage all facets of the Women's Softball Program including coaching, recruitment, travel, scheduling, budget oversight, fundraising, and attending required Cuesta and conference meetings. The assignment also includes participation in program review, faculty evaluations, curriculum development, and division and college governance. Desirable candidates will be innovative, collaborative, and supportive individuals with recent experience in teaching and coaching in the field.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Kinesiology, Health Science, Athletics Department is made of dynamic and energetic professionals. There are 5 full-time, tenured and 15 part-time faculty in the division. There are 15 Intercollegiate Sport Teams with 3 full-time Head Coaches. Our students are interested in pursuing academic work in the health sciences, kinesiology, recreation, and fitness fields. Moreover, the Athletics Program at Cuesta College has earned more CCCAA State Scholar Awards than any California Community College.

Cuesta College serves nearly 10,000 students with instruction occurring online and at three physical sites; the main campus in San Luis Obispo, the North County Campus in Paso Robles and the South County Center in Arroyo Grande. Cuesta College offers a wide array of degrees and certificates, including 24 transfer degrees to the Cal State University system. Essential Functions & Qualifications:
- Master's degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education;
- Bachelor's degree in any of the above; AND
- Master's degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy
-The equivalent (candidates making application on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment, indicated on the Equivalency Process link).
-A valid Community College credential in the discipline
-Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Past experience in softball coaching at the high school, college or professional level;
- Recent experience in teaching Kinesiology, Recreation, Health and Fitness, preferably at the college level.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of computers and technology in an academic setting.
- Interest and experience in innovation designed to enhance learning, using multimedia and computer instruction.
- Ability to teach students to think critically and analytically.
- Demonstrated ability to employ a variety of teaching techniques and strategies to assiststudents with diverse learning needs and academic and/or athletic goals.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues and students.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the mission and objectives of the California Community Colleges and of Cuesta College.
- Current Class B Driver's License (successful candidate will be given time to obtain prior to employment);;
-Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges.
