The Montgomery County Department of Parks is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic self-starter to be an IT Support Specialist II in the technology office of its Saddlebrook facility located in Silver Spring. The Montgomery County Department of Parks owns and manages 418 parks on approximately 37,000 acres of parkland.
The IT Support Specialist II is responsible for providing IT Support to the M-NCPPC Park Police and Montgomery Parks. It is a position with the Information Technology & Innovation (ITI) Division, and reports to the Chief of ITI.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary duties include: (1) LAN/ WAN/ SAN/ Virtualization & Firewall Administration, (2) Help Desk support, (3) PC support and troubleshooting, and (4) wireless support.
- In LAN/ WAN/ SAN/ Virtualization & Firewall Administration, the IT Support Specialist performs routine LAN duties, troubleshoots common end user problems, maintains several servers (File Server, Norton-Anti-Virus Server, Domain Controller, LINX Server, IA Server, and Terminal Server), maintains backup tapes, and assists users on network operations. This employee maintains the Cisco Firewall, creates firewall rules, and monitors the log. This employee configures, installs, and maintains servers on the M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks SAN and uses Data Protector Software to back up the LAN/WAN servers. This employee works as a team player to virtualize servers and to identify server candidates to be virtualized. This employee configures and backs up virtual servers using Veeam software.
- In Help Desk support, the IT Support Specialist acknowledges assigned Help Desk tickets in a timely manner. This employee resolves tickets and documents the solution in the Help Desk database using the Help Desk software.
- In PC support and troubleshooting, the IT Support Specialist configures and deploys new PCs, troubleshoots existing PCs and peripherals, and reconfigures PCs for redistribution. This employee installs and troubleshoots departmental applications on these PCs.
- In wireless support, the IT Support Specialist installs and maintains in-car computers known as Mobile Data Terminals (MDT) and installs LAN connections and docking stations in police cruisers.
