Primary Position Function/Summary: Oversee, coordinate, and administer day-today operations of the Academic Services unit within the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: •Primary oversight for academic counseling and development of student-athletes of assigned sport teams. •Manage student development and delivery of learning strategies, consulting with coaches on student-athlete academic progress, communicating with administrators in both the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and campus units in student-athlete matters. •Supervise continuing eligibility for all assigned sport teams and responsible for maintaining academic eligibility standards for student-athletes and prospective student-athletes. •Establish academic guidelines for student-athletes and prospective student-athletes and facilitate communication with coaches in coordinating campus visits with prospective student-athletes in areas related to academic services. •Direct training for new academic counselors and all post-graduate interns and graduate students and oversee hiring, leadership, and supervision of graduate assistants and post-graduate interns. •Liaison with internal and external campus units as it relates to academic standards. •Must be available to work some evenings and weekends. •Maintain knowledge of and compliance with specific NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and institutional rules as they relate to this position is required.
Qualifications Education: Master’s degree in the areas of Educational Policy/Administration, Higher Education, Learning Leadership, Counseling, Sport Management, or closely related program, required.
Experience Required: Candidate must possess strong written and oral communication skills. Must have the ability to work with all student-athletes, male and female; At least 5 years of experience working in intercollegiate athletic academic counseling.
Preferred: Minimum of 3 years of experience in intercollegiate athletic advising director-level experience is preferred.
