1.Organize and oversee all aspects of intercollegiate athletics team. 2.Recruit high character, hard-working student-athletes to Viterbo University. 3.Plan practices, prepare team for competition, coordinate off-season training program. 4.Schedule competitions, coordinate travel, and manage budget. 5.Monitor and fosters academic progress of student-athletes. 6.Coordinate team involvement with community outreach or service projects. 7.Generate booster club support and assist with departmental fund-raisers. 8.Hire, train, supervise and evaluate assistant coaches. 9.Supports and adhere to all institutional policies outlined in the employee handbook. 10.Teach, embrace and live the five core values of the NAIA’s “Champions of Character” initiative. 11.Ensure that all program operations are in compliance with Viterbo, NSAA and NAIA rules 12.Attend all required departmental, university, and conference meetings or forums.
Academic Eligibility Responsibilities:
1.Serve as department liaison between the coaches, registrar and faculty athletic representative. 2.Initiate and facilitate eligibility certification process for each team through completion. 3.Work closely with Center for Student Success regarding student-athlete academic progress. 4.Plan annual staff educational session regarding academic eligibility rules and standards. 5.Serve as department contact for student athletes and coaches regarding eligibility questions 6.Review and approve class change requests from student-athletes after certification. 7.Collect and maintain official team rosters of all intercollegiate athletic teams. 8.Attend NAIA webinars, conferences and trainings as related to student-athlete eligibility.
Bachelor's degree required. Background in education, coaching or athletics administration desired. Experience as a successful high school or college coach preferred. Proven knowledge and ability to teach skills and fundamentals of the sport. Strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes. Good written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Understanding and commitment to Catholic and Franciscan values. Willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
