Athletics Compliance Specialist The University of Delaware Newark, Delaware
The Athletics Compliance Specialist at the University of Delaware is a valued member within the University and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services (DIARS), upholding and embracing the departmental mission of “Inspiring Greatness Together.”
The Athletics Compliance Specialist reports directly to the Sr. Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Governance/S W A. Under general direction, the Athletics Compliance Specialist is responsible for implementing a Division I compliance program for 21 varsity sports teams made up of 600 + student-athletes, athletics department and University staff, representatives of athletics interests and other outside constituencies.
The Athletics Compliance Specialist will be the primary contact with the Admissions Office and will be responsible for managing the relationship between DIARS and the Admissions Office regarding student-athletes, thereby expediting the recruitment process. Also responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the systems and processes for tracking of recruitment activities by athletics staff members. In addition, this individual is responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive rules education program for student-athletes, coaches, DIARS staff members, campus partners and boosters.
Oversees the student-athlete admission process for the Department of Athletics and Recreational Services through daily tracking and communication with the Admissions Office
Oversee initial eligibility certification.
Responsible for tracking initial eligibility status of all incoming student-athletes and communicating with coaches to ensure proper certification.
Participate in the preparation of NCAA Squad Lists and eligibility certifications; the NCAA initial-eligibility process; the completion and submission of required NCAA reports, waivers and appeals.
Reviews and monitors recruitment activities by athletics staff/coaches, including providing approval of official and unofficial visits.
Monitors playing/practice season activities.
Assists the Sr. Assoc AD with CAA and NCAA waivers and violation reporting.
Responsible for creating a comprehensive rules education program for all institutional constituents, including but not limited to, student-athletes, coaches, parents, boosters, and campus partners.
Responsible for the approval, education and monitoring of all promotional activities involving student-athletes.
Integral part of the New Employee Orientation team that works closely with and educates new coaches and athletic department employees with regard to NCAA rules and regulations.
Responsible for creating monthly compliance newsletter.
Primary liaison to Jump Forward. Responsible for training new coaches on the software; troubleshooting issues as they arise; and communicating the needs of the coaching staff with Jump Forward.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree with three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in Division I intercollegiate athletics preferred.
Knowledge of NCAA eligibility and legislation.
Knowledge and experience with NCAA software and databases preferred.
Interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to plan, organize and implement programs and initiatives to ensure compliance with NCAA regulations.
Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
Ability to gather and analyze data, compile information and prepare reports and projections.
Proficiency with software applications, including database, spreadsheet, presentation and word processing.
Analytical, evaluative and critical thinking skills.
