Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Coach – Women’s Rowing for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. This position is under the direct supervision of the Head Coach. The Assistant Coach assists in establishing and maintaining a nationally competitive intercollegiate women’s rowing program in the Big Ten and NCAA. This position will also assist in all aspects of the rowing program, including recruiting, coaching current student-athletes on and off the water, assisting in fundraising, assisting in alumni relations. The Assistant Coach must have an understanding of technical knowledge of the sport of Rowing with the ability to help develop the student-athlete to their full potential.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
•The position will be responsible for helping to maintain of all equipment for the women’s rowing program, including all boats, oars, electronic equipment, safety equipment, ergometers, bikes, etc. •Assists in organizing and conducting practices and competitions at a high level of efficiency and success. •Assists in developing, teaching and instructing the student-athletes in the proper rules of play, conditioning, skills and techniques in the sport of rowing and in life-skills and leadership qualities off the course. •Maintains equipment for the women’s rowing program including ordering, assessing and repairing boats, oars, ergometers, electronic equipment, safety equipment, etc. •Recruits high level academically and athletically skilled students to attend Rutgers and to participate on the women’s Rowing team. •Participates in fundraising and public relations events that support the objective of the program and allow for program enhancements.
• This position requires Bachelor Degree; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel, when necessary, to sites throughout New Jersey for business demands. • Good organization skills. • Ability to communicate with student-athletes and the media. • Computer literate. • Knowledge of NCAA regulations relative to proper rules of competition in the sport of rowing.
• Collegiate rowing coaching and competition experience preferred. • Knowledge of Big Ten Conference and NCAA regulations preferred. • Previous experience repairing and maintaining rowing-related equipment including rowing shells, boats, oars, ergometers, etc. preferred.
