Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine - Athletic Training
The Assistant Athletic Trainer oversees the operations of the Athletic Training Room, covering specific sports as assigned, with the guidelines of the University, OVC and NCAA. Reports directly to the Director of Sports Medicine. Person is certified by the NATA and eligible for Illinois license.
Follows the policies and procedures for the athletic training staff and facilities as established by the head athletic trainer.
Supervises and instructs athletic training students assigned to his/her sport with guidelines established by the head athletic trainer.
Maintains medical, insurance and rehabilitation recording in compliance with current policies established by the head athletic trainer and team physician. Assists in providing information needed to process medical claims.
Carries out current methods of prevention, treatment, recognition and rehab of injuries.
Participates in continuing education required to maintain Illinois Athletic Training License.
Communicates with coaching staff necessary medical information.
Assists with the substance abuse program.
Performs other duties as assigned by the head athletic trainer or athletic administration.
Understand and follows NCAA rules as they pertain to medical care.
Masters degree required in Athletic Training or related field. NATA certified and Illinois License (or eligible) required. Experience in college athletics and with div 1 level preferred. Experience working efficiently and cooperatively with student-athletes, coaches and staff. Strong interpersonal skills are preferred. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience with promoting inclusive excellence is required.
