Carthage College, home to one of the premier NCAA Division III athletic programs in the United States, invites applications for Assistant Coach (Graduate Assistant) of the Men's Lacrosse Team.
Carthage fields 24 NCAA Division III varsity sports. Many of our teams compete in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), widely regarded as one of the most competitive Division III conferences in the country. The College flies 115 banners from 24 different sports earned in the last 25 years, signifying both conference championships and top-eight national finishes.
Carthage has invested more than $200 million in facilities in recent years with a substantial proportion of those funds devoted to renovating and building new athletic facilities. Recent projects include a 2017 renovation of Art Keller Field and the surrounding track and the 2013 reconstruction of Augie Schmidt Field (baseball). Other facilities include Tarble Arena, the N. E. Tarble Athletic, and Recreation Center, and Smeds Tennis Center. The College's athletic endowment is approaching $3 million.
This position is responsible for conducting the Men's Lacrosse Team for a competitive NCAA Division III college. This includes practice and game coaching, recruiting high potential student athletes, and supporting the overall management of the program.
A central part of this role is assisting the Head Coach and Director of Athletics to achieve the department's overall objectives.
1.Assist with coaching student athletes during practices and games and coordinate necessary logistics for each event. Mentor and evaluate student athlete progress in the sport. 2.Recruit high potential student athletes who have proven solid academic success, athletic ability, and good citizenship. Meet with students and their parents to discuss and promote the Carthage opportunity, as well as use phone, text, email, social media, and other means of contacting recruits. 3.Prepare team to compete at high level, including knowledge of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to his/her assigned sport. Plan and direct physical conditioning and nutritional programs to support student athletes' maximum performance. Assist with research to fully prepare for the competitors faced in the assigned sport and the scouting landscape for building strong future teams. 4.Lacrosse Program Management support: coordinate travel arrangements and travel with team to chaperone, guide, and direct student athletes. Evaluate, select, acquire, store, and issue equipment and other materials as necessary. Assist with fundraising and community service opportunities for student athletes in order to support program goals and build team camaraderie. 5.Schedule practice times, weight room usage, laundry services, and travel arrangements with minimal disruptions and expense. Collaborate with other departments, facilities personnel, and referees, to ensure proper event set-up, uniforms, and staffing.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
•Requires a minimum education including a Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as Sports Management, Marketing, or Business •Requires a minimum of one to three years of similar coaching and leadership experience •Requires excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with student athletes, employees, student workers, community members, and faculty •Requires the ability to use a personal computer and Web browser, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite •Requires demonstrated ability to work collegially in a team-oriented environment •Requires demonstrated ability to exercise individual initiative, independent action, and sound judgment •Requires demonstrated ability to handle challenging situations with confidence •Requires demonstrated expertise in the areas of organization, problem-solving, and critical thinking •Requires knowledge of and the ability to use a variety of standard office equipment such as a telephone, computer keyboard, copier, printer, scanner, etc. •Requires the ability to travel regularly to conduct College business
